    Run Flats

is it possible to install run-flat tires on the standard turbo wheels ?

    any recommendations ?

    Re: Run Flats

Why do you want to do that?! We are trying to reduce height drom the wheels, not to increase it.. This is one of the advantages of the carbon brakes... PCCB..
If you want you can though.
Runflat is a kind of tire... I think goodyear produces a model..

    Re: Run Flats

i want to do it cause roads are very bad here in egypt and its easy to get a flat. lots of construction areas on roadside with nails and all kinds of sh.., unfortunately.

furthermore i have to fly in my tires from europe as these OEM tires are not available locally.

as the car has no spare, i would just feel'safer' with runflats.
ferrari have them available as an option for the f430. however not with all standard rims.....

    Re: Run Flats

Not sure if this spare fits in Turbo trunk; it fits in 997 C2 trunk. Will fit over turbo brakes, MAY just barely fit over PCCBs.

    Re: Run Flats

This is how 997/S car is sold in countries requiring spares. Notice black cradle holding base of tire.

    Re: Run Flats

I think you're on the right track. If it was something affordable, I would consider buying an additional set of wheels and load them up with runflats, and use them when I'm in hostile tire territory.

So far I have had one tire take a nail,--and I plugged it to keep on the road. It was replaced within a short while,--perhaps those Bridgestones are not so hard to obtain in California.

MMD I miss her, the car sold last week. (Thats my car with the spare). That post is 2 years old. If you don't want to purchase the spare at least carry a plug kit with you as a first resort. Griotsgarage sells one for $30 bucks (I have no affiliation with him) so there is no excuse! Personally I don't always carry the spare with me (making it redundant) but I kept it because I understand it fits the red standard brakes on the Turbo. 5 more weeks to go? I would Not put run flats on the car for many reasons. The ride will be compromised and you may actually damage the car if you use the wrong size.Check with Porsche before you attempt this. Their heavy and not the best choice for a $130K car. That may change down the road but we are not quite there yet. They have come a long way since the mid to late 90's but the cars suspension is not tuned for those type of tires. IMO

    Re: Run Flats

I agreed w/ Gradyex. From my days of reading the BMW 545i forum: Run-flats have terrible noise and ride harshness. I believe the sidewall is extremely stiff, just so they could "run flat" (someone corrects me if I am wrong), and that's where the problems come from. My humble opinion: run-flat at this time is still a big no-no.
