    Cayenne Front Brakes

anyone have any advice on changing front brakes on a cayenne S,I remember someone on the board saying that the pistons operate together, so when you push one in the other two pistons come out, so my question is how do you get the brake pads back in when the pistons are popped out position.

    Re: Cayenne Front Brakes

I know this may not answer your question but a good advice: if you have to ask, forget about it.

I learned two things in my past (and yes, I did a lot myself on my former cars): never mess around with brakes and tires. NEVER.

Sounds like a really got piece of advice.

Check with your mechanic. This may be the answer:

FIXED CALIPER-- Push against the old pads before you remove them. If the caliper must come off, push back one pad at a time until the pistons are seated, after you remove the caliper.

    Re: Cayenne Front Brakes

It's pretty straightforward really, just use a G-clamp and press against the thinner old pad which pushes the pistons back. You could also use a spanner or anything else that spans the pistons. Make sure you remove the cap on the brake master cylinder, but don't let the brake fluid spill over the top, and don't ever press the brake pedal with the cap off.

If you really don't know then let an experienced mechanic do the job, otherwise it is well within the grasp of the average owner with the right tools.

    Re: Cayenne Front Brakes

Its even simpler than that, all you do is compress one piston at a time as you slide the new pad in, the individual pistons are easy to compress with your fingers or a small lever like a screw drive with a leather pad over it. Done it twice onmine and 4 times on other peoples. The harddest pert is tapping thru the retaining pin with a drift. The photo is on I took a while ago, check out my rennlist gallery for more.
