My friend tested the 612 and loved it!!!

    http://homepage.mac.com/johnduff/PhotoAlbum24.html

Dave told me this is a fantastic GT and the sound was amazing!!!
Well done Ferrari, I'm still not a fan of the styling but the engine has got to be one of the best in the world!

Re: My friend tested the 612 and loved it!!!

    Nice pictures

Re: My friend tested the 612 and loved it!!!

    Cool, Fanch!

At the recent Ferrari Challenge at Infineon Raceway, they had a blue one just like this for viewing (not for sitting or for driving, thank you very much!!!) and it was beautiful, in my opinion. I love this car, and I particularly love the interior.

I couldn't help noticing that the guys on these pictures are the ones who made the 996TT vs. 360 Modena video a while ago. Do you know these guys Fanch?

Re: My friend tested the 612 and loved it!!!

Yes I do, very good friends of mine.
One of them is a free lance auto journalist, the other is just a good friend who comes along, very knowledgeable on cars and editing films.
    Good guys!

I am told the wait list is now two years. The magic of Ferrari!

    Ferrari's waiting list are funny.
Did I tell you the story about the Enzo's?

In Maranello there is a huge box where there are about 50-60 Enzo's stored. They are just there. The cars are ready, but the clients are said that their car will be produced may be in 6 months. This is how they try to keep exclusive their cars, by saying that it need 1 year to have it when the cars are ready for 2 months!

I'd gladly help make the Enzos even more exclusive by helping Ferrari in freeing up some storage space. I mean, what can be more exclusive then being phoned after waiting for 6 months that your car isn't available and never will be?

They keep the car exclusive by building only 399. When customers take delivery is irrelevant.

Re: My friend tested the 612 and loved it!!!

francois, thanks for sharing the pictures!

maybe i'm the only one on this planet, but i damn love the scaglietti's design! it's so pure, free of blingbling and nonsense.

Re: My friend tested the 612 and loved it!!!

    Nick,

    Don't you mean, "399" + at least 25 MCCs/MCSs?

Greg, that still is far less than 1500 plus cars. Obviously, exclusive has a different meaning depending on the car manufacturer.

Re: My friend tested the 612 and loved it!!!

What's the deal with this 'exclusivity' thing?
A 500.000EUR car is not a volkswagen, you wont see it around every corner, so i don't understand why is it so bad that another 1499 owners are enjoing their fine piece of machinery.
Of course, if you're talking about bragging rights, about the ' I have the coolest car around this part of europe', then it's another story, a story that evolves around shallowness and 'phuck me, i'm famous'.
If there were 100.000 enzos, would that make them as boring and unexciting to drive as a golf? I think not.
A new car is not the best investment one could make, so one buys a car thinking solely about resale value, then that one should fire his financial adivsor.

So we're left with passion and automotive excelence, and that does not change, whether there are 40 cars, or 4000.

wow, this must be my longest post ever here on rennteam

If exclusivity did not matter, why then is Porsche limiting the CGT to 1500 (cross their heart and swear to god they will not build more)?

It matters because your not going to sell many $500,000 cars that are mass produced.

Regarding the length of your post, I am happy to see your "juices" flowing.

It's the Maserati version of the Enzo...Maserati Competition Coupe and Maserati Competition Spider, I believe.

The CGT (as a street car) was a cold business decision of mr. Wiedeking, so i guess that the sweet spot in the profit equation was around 1500 cars.

Exactly, the reason being this selfish 'exclusivity'
If people stopped putting so much value on non-driving related issues (or if wiedeking accepted a lower profit margin), porsche could sell more CGTs, and more people could enjoy them.

    Maserati

I guess the car is now known as the MC12, but the names used before its geneva debut were as follows:

Maserati Competizione Corsa and MCS (Stradale: road car)

    Ever heard of...POSERS?

If you want something exclusive, take a yellow 997 S to the Cote d'Azur this summer and you attract more attention than all those Ferraris and Lamborghinis.
I remember when I travelled to South France in June 2000, only a few days after I picked up my 996 Turbo at my dealer, his first customer car and one of the first cars delivered to customers in Germany. Never had so many finger prints on my windows as I had in France. When I parked my 996 Turbo next to a Pizzeria in Frejus near the Port, the Pizza guys came out and shouted in french that they'll have a look at this "baby", so nobody does harm to it. I was already joking with my wife that when we'll come back to the car, the car is probably gone. No such thing: when we returned, one of the Pizza guys was just chasing a youngster away from our car.
And in Monaco, they let me park the car in front of the Casino(the guy at the parking lot made me a sign to park and I parked ) and I even won 200 Francs (after playing with 50 Franc) at the slot machines.

You have always to drive something very new, something people don't know yet. This is the best way to get your exclusivity. No wonder that some people in the US got themselves a Smart. Ouch.

Well, i guess i've seen more than my fair share, with all these 'got rich quick and dirty' snobs around
One time, the son of some seaside town mayor left his yellow ferrari modena in the MIDDLE OF THE MAIN STREET in Neptun, and went to have a pizza, or something. It's crazy

So yeah, i've heard of posers, but the ones who want 'exclusivity' are nowhere near as bad (in 'posing') as these shady mobsters. GET ME OUT OF HERE!

The reason why exclusivity is important is, whether anyone on this board will admit to it or not, high performance cars on public roads are a dime a dozen. If your going to pay $500,000 for a car, you want it to be different not only in performance but in appearance (exquisite), unique (very select) and that it screams expensive.

Yes several will claim with those attributes you become a poseur or whatever. Yet those that are spending that kind of money know better.

The CGT is a classic example of this principle at work. Undoubtly, in my view, it is the best supercar sportcar on the road. Most of the reviews have confirmed that fact. Nevertheless, after three years of marketing the car is not sold out. They are building too many.

Finally, if Porsche proceeds with building the sedan which has the CGT front end, I wonder what the reaction of Mike, CF and Ben would be. They would have every right to be upset because the uniqueness of their half million car will have been substantially compromised.

Re: My friend tested the 612 and loved it!!!

I'm not trying to be rude, but...
Somehow I'm having hard time following the logic of your poseur exclusivity theory to the engineering excellence of CGT to the supply and demand of $500k cars.

Perhaps only an argument for an argument's sake?

Any, I completly agree of what you said RC. People look at you when you have something nice, but most importantly, different. Something never seen!

I believe that more of these cars than one might think are bought by enthusiasts, collectors of kinetic sculpture - the members here. I'd have bought an Enzo at MSRP, given the chance, simply because I admire the art in cars, and the Enzo is to my eye superb. For me, the number of cars produced goes to valuation and, for some, one of the joys in buying art, is buying well. I have bought inexpensive cars - most recently, a 1958 Vespa 400 - because they tweak some part of my automotive aesthetic.

The 612 photos are beautiful, thank you for the post.

Re: My friend tested the 612 and loved it!!!

Its 4 month for a scaglietti in France so i guess its about the same in the US. 2 years seem really to much of a diference !
By the way does anyone knows the name of the color of the 612 at the Paris Auto show, or has a good quality picture of it ?
