Nissan GT-R races the 997TT at Laguna Seca

And it was a little bit faster according to Edmunds

A little bit faster on what tires? The video stated that Nissan changed lots of tires during the run - who's to know what kind of rubber was on the car when it lapped a little faster than the Turbo?

Not only that, who knows which driver is better? these tests are completely useless if they are not done by drivers with similar skills and who are also as familiar with the track. What I see is pure marketing nothing more. lets wait for the real tests.

    I fully agree.

Some of you guys need to relax. If the Z06 runs faster laps on runflats than a GT3 on Cups then of course it turns into a "...but the Z has 100 more HP". Or maybe... "it was a flying lap"

Will it make some of you feel better if we just state that nothing runs faster than a TT? Nothing. Including jetplanes. Nothing. Especially not a rice burner.

If I were any more relaxed, I'd fall asleep.

The point I'm making is that the "who's faster" thing can be affected by variables outside of the car's "stock" configuration. And until you know what the variables are, telling me who's faster is meaningless.

And with regard to the "runflats"...they aren't the "bad" tires Vette guys make them out to be.

I think the real point is that Porsche should have put a little more oomph in the Turbo. The fact that a car like this has a chance (variables or not) to attack the turbo with this kind of vigor shows you aren't the only one sleeping. (No insult intended to you.)

Re: Nissan GT-R races the 997TT at Laguna Seca

please..there will always be something newer or faster out there...anyone that actually owns a tt waiting to jump ship for this , lets see trying to be nice, car ?... not me

Re: Nissan GT-R races the 997TT at Laguna Seca

Does any normal man actually give`s a [beep] about a difference of 0.10 or whatever, around a track ?

Re: Nissan GT-R races the 997TT at Laguna Seca

Do people actually cross-shop Porsche and Nissan? Especially a Porsche Turbo and a GT-R. I figured the GT-R would be priced closer to the Z06 than 997 Turbo, so I would imagine it's a bigger threat to the Z06 than 997 Turbo.

Agree! And new Nissan is true competitor for Audi RS4 and forthcoming BMW M3 IMHO. 997 turbo is simply in another league IMHO...

Re: Nissan GT-R races the 997TT at Laguna Seca

Actually, since Nissan is going for the bang for the buck... why did they not compare it to a Z06?

Re: Nissan GT-R races the 997TT at Laguna Seca

I don't think anyone would have cross shopped a Porsche and Nissan until now, but they aren't exactly in the same price range. It is going to be alot closer to the Z06's price from what I understand so it would make more sense to compare it to the Z. However, my opinion on why they used the TT is the fact that the Z is RWD and it wouldn't make the most sense to use a RWD car as a benchmark for an AWD one.

Re: Nissan GT-R races the 997TT at Laguna Seca

bondmid003, as you are a Z06 owner, are people on the Z boards talking about the GT-R yet?

Performance-wise the GT-R is in the same league as the Z06 and the TT, price-wise it's around the Z06. The GT-R also spots the same advantage of the TT over the Z06, 2 more seats and AWD. With AWD it's going to be a all-weather performance car like the TT.

In a nut shell, the GT-R is going to be a 'poor' man's 997 Turbo. Poor here is a relative term.

Generally, people who can afford a 997 Turbo can also afford to have a second car in the Z06's price range, but the reverse may not be true. So I don't think Nissan is targeting the 997 Turbo directly. I think Nissan is using the 997 Turbo to indirectly targeting the Z06 instead.

We've had a few discussions over at corvetteforum about it. Most Z owners are looking forward to seeing what this thing can do.

Re: Nissan GT-R races the 997TT at Laguna Seca

    Japanese Car(nissan honda toyota ) is boring.exept subaru/evo

Re: Nissan GT-R races the 997TT at Laguna Seca

all three great cars, I expect the porsche to be faster, this car is not a production vehicle...

Re: Nissan GT-R races the 997TT at Laguna Seca

I don't care if the nissan is slightly faster on one lap, I would never buy a japanese car over a porsche. Looks like they did a good job copying once again, this time they copied the R8.
