    What could be wrong? cheap 2002 996tt

    I've got a lead on a 996tt coupe with 18k miles and some performance upgrades (ecu, exhaust), carbon, installed radar, new tires. Pictures look clean. Reputable place. Warranty till end 2005. Thing is, the price? just a tad over 90k ..

    Edmunds thinks it should be 98k trade-in, or 108k private party, WITHOUT the performance upgrades.

    Should I run away or run towards?

    Nevermind, I've discovered that edmunds and kelley blue book have dramatically different ideas about the base value of a 2002 996tt

    for private party value:
    edmunds: 102k
    kelly blue book: 91k

    I guess Kelly is more on the money. Wow holy depreciation.

    I don't know about the US but in Germany people want to buy "original" used cars. Means: a tuned, chipped or whatever 996 Turbo sells for less money than an original car without mods. Sad but true, I had to make the same experience with my tuned 996 Turbo.

    That may be because they don't trust the aftermarket modifications compared to the original factory stuff? I would be very suspicious, if any tuner claims the same reliablity as the factory work...

    Of course there is no such thing as "same reliability as factory work" but some people still seem to believe in Santa.
    But there are Tuners and Tuners, especially regarding engine tuning. A very sad part of the whole 996 Turbo used car market: a lot of 996 Turbos have been "chipped", modified by software only and "re-chipped" with the original software before the cars were offered for sale. So people might think they buy an "original" car but this "original" car has driven around for 20000 or more km with a modified software and therefore more power and more stress to the engine, drivetrain, etc.. Not a good buy.

    with 18k miles, I'd say a tad over 90 is a good place to start, but it's not a steal by any means.

    Modding and tuning do not help a car's value as mentioned above, so if this was stock, and that was the price, it's just an 'ok' deal.
