    Dyno testing on a new car

    My 07 987S is just finishing up the 2,000 mi <4,200 RPM break in period. I know the owner of a local performance shop with a DynoJet machine and he has offered to dyno the car. Looking forward to getting a baseline for the engine. I will run the engine a bit a redline before handing it over to the shop.

    Is it too early in the life of the engine to do the dyno test? Will the HP increase as the engine really runs in or is now as high as it will ever get?

    I'll post the plots when I have it done.

    I would imagine max power would be soemwhere around 10k miles, certainly this seems to be a poitn where a lot of modern engines fully loosen up - sometimes quite remarkably !

    My previous 987 base ran noticeably better after approximately 15K miles. Similar improvement in my current 987S was felt after about 12K.

    I would describe "better" as improved acceleration, smoother idle, and markedly better fuel economy. It's not an overnight phenomena but at those points, the aggregate improvements became noticeable, at least in my case.

    I have 6,600 miles on my 987S. I was just noticing the other day, during some spirited driving, that the motor definately felt stronger than when I brought it home. Especially in the all important 4000-6000 range this motor feels, and sounds, great now. Of course I was using the completely scientific, seat of the pants, method of determining this.

    Well then it will be interesting to get a 2000 mile baseline dyno followed up with a few more runs at maybe 5K-10K mile increments to try to quantify this phenomena.
