First service - hit with multiple recalls...

My 997S was in for its first service today - 2 years old, 12,000 miles on the clock. Thought it would a simple service as its running fine without any issues. I did get a recall notice from Porsche to replace the exhaust tips, which was the only other item for todays service.

Anyway, had a call from the dealer .... then sat down and felt totally p155ed off. Car needed at dealer for 2 days whilst they pull the crank case open to put in a spacer or something under recall number W545 (drop the transmission out to do this). Also needs to have another recall notice W557 addressed which is related to the shift cable and bracket.

Wouldnt have minded so much if Porsche had sent me a notice or something as they did for the exhaust tips recall (A601). W556 front latch bolts recall also applied today btw.

Looked to be quite a few VIN's on the list of crankcase recalls from what I could see....I know this was posted in 2005 on this board...but thought Id mention again as Porsche clearly missed getting in touch with me regarding this recall and it sounds pretty nasty if it should cause a problem, particularly for anyone with one of the ealier cars (mine is Dec 04) where the miles may be high and warranty period coming to an end.

I know that Porsche will take care of all of this, but Im now going to be without the car for a few days (3 in all), and I have to say that Im surprised with the number of items needing work (have owned plenty of nice cars and cant remember anything like this sort of thing being needed on any of them).

Re: First service - hit with multiple recalls...

Understand, but better to get all these things resolved on their nickle. Same thing happened to me on the first cayenne service, multiple recalls,,,
Did you get a loaner at least?

Re: First service - hit with multiple recalls...

Just had my first 10,000 miles service for 997 C2S cab and they didn't mention or fix any of these recalls. I better talk to them in the am.

Re: First service - hit with multiple recalls...

Would be curious to hear about other similar experiences. Mine goes in for 2-yr checkup in two months. TIA.

Agree... don't worry about it, just ask for the
Cayenne Turbo loaner as consolation for your trouble.

My '03 M3 cabrio needed 6 warranty items in the first year or so-- nothing needed since-- (and mine was not even in the M3 group requiring the infamous crank-bearings replacement). Despite all of it I STILL think of the M3 as one of the finest cars I've owned.

Re: First service - hit with multiple recalls...

Call two or more weeks ahead and make an appointment. This way you are guarenteed a loaner car. Ask about any recall campaigns on your VIN number.

Re: First service - hit with multiple recalls...

My dealer uses Enterprise rent-a-car for their loaners--no P-cars, AFAIK (but they did give me a real nice Taurus for my last service).

Re: First service - hit with multiple recalls...

Recalls happen. My advice is not to worry about it. Porsche will do it all at their cost. If I were you, I would just make sure PCNA have all my correct contact information in case there's another recall for something else.

Don't mentally torture yourself. It's not an issue IMO

By contrast, if it was an emergency recall, that would be a different matter. But these recalls you mention seem to be more routine ones.

Just make sure you get a courtesy car so you're not inconvenienced. And if they make you wait 2-3 weeks before a loaner is available, then they should pay for a nice rental car instead to save you the wait.

Re: First service - hit with multiple recalls...

Is there a website where one could check if their car requires a recall? I too have an early '05 but have not received any information regarding recalls from Porsche.

Blame your dealer on this one. The recalls are minor. My service advisor stated my car need some rework after I had to be towed in for a flat tire. He ordered the items so when I came in for them, it was done in a day and they provide a free loaner car.
