The owner is Russian, fortunately he was burned in the accident but is alive also his passenger

    Re: Sad news

Terrible. It looks like he must have just lost control on a slick road. Yet another one catches fire. Hope they recover quickly.

He's a deputy of the Douma. He's 40 years old. A woman was with him in the car and she got burned too.

Russian Billionaire Kerimov in Critical Condition After Crash
    2006-11-26 12:01 (New York)

By Rudy Ruitenberg and Todd Prince
Nov. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Russian billionaire and
parliamentarian Suleiman Kerimov was hospitalized in critical
condition at Marseille's major burns center after his Ferrari
crashed and burst into flames in Nice on the French Riviera.
Kerimov, 40, was transported by helicopter to the Centre
Regional des Grands Brules in Marseille, where he arrived early
yesterday evening, after his condition was stabilized in Nice,
said Denis Burgarella, a spokesman for Assistance Publique
    Hopitaux de Marseille.
Kerimov, worth $7.1 billion according to Forbes magazine,
crashed his Ferrari Enzo around 3:30 p.m. yesterday on the
Promenade des Anglais, the boulevard that runs along the Nice
shoreline, according to a spokesman for the Police Nationale who
declined to be identified according to regulations. The sports
car caught fire and Kerimov was ``seriously injured,'' according
    to the spokesman.
Kerimov ranked No. 72 in Forbes magazine's annual survey of
the world's richest people published in March. His wealth derives
from stakes in OAO Gazprom, Russia's natural-gas export monopoly,
and OAO Sberbank, eastern Europe's largest bank. He also owns OAO
MNPO Polymetal, Russia's biggest silver miner.
He hired Merrill Lynch & Co. to make his investment company
OAO GNK Nafta Moskva one of the world's top private-equity firms,
the London-based Times newspaper reported in August.
Kerimov also is a member of the Duma, the lower house of the
    Russian parliament.
A female passenger in the black Ferrari was also injured,
    Agence France-Presse reported, citing police.
Hospital spokesman Burgarella declined to comment on
Kerimov's survival chances, saying a patient must be in a stable
condition for 48 hours for an assessment.
Kerimov was born in Dagestan in Russia's Caucasus region.

No, your English is quite good and I read it the way you meant it to be read! I just made a joke about it .

    Re: Sad news

Stupid question: why do we always see a Ferrari in two halfs after such an accident? This isn't the first picture with an Enzo in two halfs?!

True. There was the Stefan "Dietrich" crash and also the fatal crash in Northern Italy before that. Those are the two which I can remember off the top of my head.

And why do so many F's seem to have post-collision fires??? Can't recall hearing of episodes of P/MB w/post-collision fires......

Also, why aren't more F owners successfully putting out these pesky fires w/the fire extinguishers that many buyers seem to spec??? Are F owners particularly inept amateur firefighters???

    Re: Sad news

How fast was he going to break the car in half?

    He was inside a city...

    Re: Sad news

    Where's Nick?

He will have all the answers, and defenses for the families in any lawsuit!!

And no Nick, it wasn't Porsche's fault this time.

    Re: Sad news

As the cars get more and more power we are going to see this more and more

RC: Ferrari designed the Enzo to have the cabin split from the engine compartment in the event of side impact. The cabon is a separate compartment of the car that is made of carbon and designed to protect the passengers.

Even more stupid question: Why does Ferrari crash tend to end up in flames? Perhaps, Niki Lauda can explain that to us.

    Re: Sad news

Another ones bites the dust! The Enzo's are dropping like flies. I think 600+bhp cars and inexperienced people from the general public don't mix well.

I was thinking the same. I guess at a crash at high speed - which probably the case in all the Enzo crashes mentioned - the area between engine and passsenger cabin is the weakest point of the car.

This is what I like to believe, Mike but I'm not always sure about it. Of course it is easy to blame this russian guy but how the heck did he do that INSIDE the city? I know this area and I've been there too, I don't understand.
I do 286 kph (speedo reading) in my Cayenne Turbo and I can drive sideways at more than 160 kph without crashing, so how can somebody do this to a car inside a city?! I don't get it. Well...maybe his girl friend made some moves on him...whatever...

I just hate to see these nice cars cut in half or burst in fire, I would LOVE to have some of these beauties (talking about the cars) in my garage, so every time I see such pictures, I almost start to cry. Honestly.

I do not know the conditions of the accident either, but that's exactly what I asked myself when I saw that picture.
I know that area of Nice and it is limited to 30 mph.
Let's say he was speeding, like 60 to 70 mph, how do you break a car like that in two pieces at those speeds???!!!

The answer to me is obvious, he must have been driving way way faster, in which case, no offense, but in a city centre, surrounded by trees, you must be ready to suffer the consequences.

Good thing no one else whas involved in the crash.

    Re: Sad news

Tragic for him, his companion and the Enzo.

    Re: Sad news

I'm sorry for the Enzo. Conditionally also for his companion, unless she cheered him on while he was playing Monaco F1 on the crowded promenade of Nice .
