The M5 is now available with a true 6-speed manual (test drove one yesterday) and I presume the M6 will follow suit soon, if not immediately.

I'd take the 997S over the M6 cab, but I'd take the new M3 over any 997 n/a engine.

You may want to wait until it is out, it is not just about the engine and numbers but rather the entire package and also the sensory experience. Don't short the 997S just yet; look at the Z4M Boxster comparison, i thought for sure the Z4M would come out the winner...
Quote:Wishful dreaming about the 450 hp, more like 400-410 hp, they will not let the M3 encroach on M5/6 performance. As it stands, let's hope it can keep up with the RS4, yes they make wonderful engines but that's one part of the whole package.

Minimally, a 420 h.p. beast. Likely to get closer to 450 pomies and weigh about the same as the turbo. Arguably, BMW makes some of the best engines in the world. And, I wouldn't buy a car based on what may happen to resale if it were in an accident.

I think BMW M's reliability is overrated from the e46 M3 engines blowing up to the SMGIII issues in the e60 M5 through the Vanos line ruptures also in the V10...Noone is perfect, witness the RMS Porsche leaks, but to assume that somehow BMW M's have better quality is an oversimplification and i have a feeling history will repeat itself at least partially in e90 M3...

the M6 engine and sequential gearbox are far superior... but the damn thing looks too bulky, and too much of an MTV video clip rapper's pimp ride... sorry!
