Went to test drive Boxster, S, and Cayman S
Before I give my impression, I currently own a 06 Carrera S.
07 Boxster with Sports package + PASM
First of all, let me say I am a sucker for that exhaust sound!! Fantastic. Much smoother than my Carrera and more comfortable. Power and torque are average but the chassis more than makes up for that. I think the 17" are better than the 18" on this car. Lighter and better feel. Shifter is very smooth but found downshifting to 2nd a bit notchy. Maybe too new still. Overall very impressed with it and could see it in my garage
06 Boxster S Chrono pack + PASM
Where is the sound??? Compared to the base one the S exhaust tone is almost too quiet! Very similar to the base but I have to say was not impressed by the power/torque. Was expecting more from it. Little more off the line but really not that much different. Please note I shifted before 4.5K on the Boxsters. If I had the choice, would get the base model....one caveat are the brakes on the S which are probably better.
06 Cayman S
Felt like I sat down in my Carrera S. Pretty much similar other than little more cramped. Sound was terrific and much more stiffer than the Boxsters. What a diffenrece in dynamics compared to my car WOW!! This one had 4K miles on it so I pushed it...Fantastic grip in the corners and fun off the line. This could be a 911 killer on the track. I felt much more confident in it.
Conclusion:
Not as raw as my C2S but could be great weekend and track cars. I think I would go for the Base boxster with better brake pads, tires and wheels for weekend and track and would be a great bang for the buck (within the Porsche family
