    "exlusive" options

After viewing a recent photo posted here I noticed a part that i wanted to get for my cocoa leather interior C2 cab. It's a simple little leather part that fits infront of the gear shift boot(option code CDZ) and kind of ties the whole center console together with the PCM. It can be seen in picture 13 below.

    http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat...true#Post278083

After contacting my dealer, i was told this is an "exclusive" option and could only be ordered from the factory. I'm sure he's telling me the truth, but what I don't get is why would Porsche not sell me a part for $250 that can't cost more then 10 bucks to make !!!
Have other had any success getting "exclusive" options such as these? I've also noticed that you can't even find these options on the US porsche web site. If you go the the German web site, you can find them all listed.

    Re: "exlusive" options

I've fired off an email to my parts manager to see what he can do for me. It's $430 for the 997TT. Costly for such a tiny piece! I'll post here what I find out.

    Re: "exlusive" options

Welcome to Porsche. Sadly, you can not order such parts after the fact as Porsche wants to ensure that they all are cut from the same matched hides. Thus, you need to know what you want up front, and order it with the car,--precisely what I wound up doing.

    Re: "exlusive" options

that's kind of an odd reason. If I don't care if the hides are slightly off, why should porsche? Also, you can buy cocoa sun visors or cocoa inner door sills after the fact. So seems like it's something else. I know they have there own reasons for things, but this one really escapes me!

    Re: "exlusive" options

That's a really nice little part. You're right, it does make a big difference. Shame it's so expensive!

    Re: "exlusive" options

Ask your local dealer to recommend an upholstery shop... most dealers have one, and they can do an incredible job of matching Porsche hides and workmanship...

    Re: "exlusive" options

That's a great idea, Ludi! I just may go with that approach instead.

My parts manager put in a request to Porsche about this item and said that it might take around 120 days to get the part from Porsche. I'll know more about that tomorrow when he gets back to me. If it costs WAY beyond the cost of the factory option price then I won't order it. I'll keep you guys posted.

    Re: "exlusive" options

Please let me know how that works out...as long as it's under 300-400 hundred, i'd order one as well.

    Re: "exlusive" options

I'm not so sure it'll be under 300-400. This option from the factory is $430 USD so it's likely that it'll cost more than that. One other issue is that if we were to have a local upholstery guy do it then it'd probably be a different type of leather. That's something I'm concerned about.

I'll definitely keep you posted....BTW, what color/type is your leather?

    Re: "exlusive" options

mine is cocoa. If you can get the part, i guess i really don't care what it costs! please let me know....thanks

    Re: "exlusive" options

Oh sorry..I didn't see your signature.

    Re: "exlusive" options

CDZ is really nice, I ordered it when I got my car.

As to why you cannot buy it from your dealer, I guess its just marketing and a way to make people look at exclusive as exclusive when in reality it is just an added list of options.

Most luxury items or "exclusive" items use that marketing strategy so I don't think its so strange.

    Re: "exlusive" options

I guess my even bigger beef is that you can't even view the "exclusive" options on the porsche USA web page so most won't even know about it!
My dealer told me that if I could supply him with a VIN number of a 997 that had the CDZ option ordered, he could then order it for me. I guess porsche will sell it after market to someone who originally ordered the option. Any chance someone out there would give me there vin number?? I need someone who originally ordered the CDZ option in cocoa. I don't actually expect anyone to offer it, just figured I ask!!

    Re: "exlusive" options

    All,

I had this EXACT same issue with option CDZ:

    http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=226077&an=0&page=0#226077

I was really lucky because my delership came to the rescue. They agreed to add CDZ (along with a couple others I wished I had ordered originaly: CUJ & DAA) to their next 997 Cocoa order that didn't have a buyer and that they would "swap" the pieces when the car gets delivered and discount the list price of the newly built car accordingly with me writing them a check for the difference plus a small amount for installation.

It took some time (3 months) but it all worked perfectly. The car got delivered. They called me. I brought my car in the for the swap and they sold the new car to a buyer within 48 hours who didn't want or care about those options.

It worked out great and I am definitely going to keep giving the dealership my business although I'm sure the mother ship in Stuttgart wouldn't love this practice (even though they made a customer MORE SATISFIED - kind of warped when you think about it). Also strange that you have to go through this elaborate process to give Porsche MORE MONEY.

Anyway this is another possible way to get an exclusive option after the fact.

    Re: "exlusive" options

Interesting....what dealer was it? They've clearly ordered a car with cocoa and the CDZ option so they should have the VIN number on hand and then they could order me the "replacement" part. I have no problem paying a premium for the part. Do u think that would work?

    Re: "exlusive" options

Just got the same answer you got from your dealership. Porsche will not release it for retrofitting because it's part of their "exclusive" collection.

Maybe I can contact my friend at Porsche HQ for better results.

    Re: "exlusive" options

Randy 911. I don't have that other cars VIN but I'll try to get it.

    Re: "exlusive" options

Just a trcik that might work for some, if you use the 3D configurator in the German website you can select and see all exclusive options. If you don't know german, thats ok, have patience and start checking option by option, see how it look inside the car, write down the code of the option and then your dealer can order it when you purchase the car.

    Re: "exlusive" options

    Randy,

I sent you a private message in response to your request. Good luck.

    - Tom

    Re: "exlusive" options

Tom, can you send me the same too? I could use some help too. Or Randy too.

    Re: "exlusive" options

    Atomic80,

    Done. Good luck as well.
