    GT3 MKII maintenance cost vs 964RS

    Hi,

    I am considering buying a GT3 MKII clubsport.

    I have some questions about the maintenance cost of the GT3 MKII compared to the 964RS.

    I have two options :

    Option 1 : car will be used for street and 6 track day a year.
    Option 2 : car will be used for street and 12 track day a year.

    Do you GT3 owner know how much more the GT3 will cost compared to the 964RS ?
    I am looking for a ratio such as for example 30% more thant the 964RS...
    Do you have any track budget description to have an idea of my future expenses ?

    I think that the GT3 will have pretty similar running costs to the 964RS. It's heavier and faster, so you may need to replace brake pads and tires a bit more frequently.

    The 964RS requires periodic valve adjustments which the GT3 does not.

    964 has 12 spark plugs and two distributor caps/belt that need periodic replacement. GT3 has solid state ignition that is maintenance free (and 6 plugs with long change intervals).

    Water-cooled GT3 has a few more cooling parts that could break (water pump, radiators, hoses and reservoir.

    I don't think the GT3 will cost any more than a 964RS. If you kill the engine, the GT3 costs more to replace (though 964RS motor is very expensive too).

    Overall, it's a tie, imho...

    Less mechanical maintenance on a GT3, even before you start rebuilding the 964RS. They're 15 years old now...

    With many track days cost of tires and brakes will be significantly higher on a GT3 than a 964RS. Set up for the track the GT3 EATS tires. Allways top-of-the-line, allways huge dimension, allways expensive...

    The GT3 will be faster and more versatile, but not necessarily more fun. A 964RS will surely hold its value better.
