Even those who track their cars?

Are you sure that it's $5500? My dealership quoted me $3400. But then again the front and rear rotors are different sizes.

That was dealer quote for 997 GT3 PCCB rotors (didn't shop around, so probably could get cheaper)

If you track the car, depending on how hard you drive, you'll be replacing them at least once a year if not more

    Re: PCCB or Standard Brakes?

I replaced my steels at 40k miles, but they had alot of track use. Price for 4 new rotors and pads 946$ from suncoast porsche, I did the work myself (about two hrs).

Once a year if you are clubracing perhaps, but then your logbooks require it along with the brake lines and other assorted suspension parts.

I tracked both a 944 turbo and M3 for the past 5 years, both with 993tt front brakes. The 944 turbo has over 2000 track miles on it. Rotors still have plenty of life on them.

    Re: PCCB or Standard Brakes?

PCCB's have as their main advantage a virtually total lack of fade. This means that a certain amount of pedal pressure will reproduce the same amount of deceleration, every time. Anyone who tracks often knows how useful this is on a given track, where as much of the grunt work can be made automatic so one can focus on the line and the conditions. You want braking to be predictable.

PCCB's will not produce appreciably shorter stopping distances except after multiple repeated stops - ie. the kind of conditions one encounters on a track.

So, if you're going to track the car, and you can afford the option, then get them. If you're not going to track the car, forget them - they won't be worth it.

I would not worry about the cost of replacing ceramic rotors as when/if that time comes (and it will almost certainly be a later date than replacement of steel rotors), if you don't like the price, you can always get steel then.

    This is really really simple.
