    Number equivalent for Cayman?

    Anyone know the number name for the cayman? is it just 987 like the new boxsters or does it have its own?

    Not really relevent to anything i was just wondering.

    987/120 is the product code for the Cayman S

    I have owned a Boxster and Boxster S (both 986's), I now own a 997S. I agree, Cayman is a Boxster Coupe. It's cool though but still a Boxster.

    and not even tuned if the ruomors about the Boxster getting the Cayman 3.4 / 295bhp engine for MY 2007 are proved correct - which is what my OPC told me this morning. I don't understand why certain Cayman enthusiasts don't like to admit that the Cayman is a Boxster derivative though. Do 997 Cab owners disown the 997 coupe - it's the same relationship, surely?

    To be fair I only really see people saying 'its a boxster coupe' and very rarely any people trying to claim otherwise

    Because they might look stupid from a certain point of view by paying more money for a Coupe.

    Btw: the 285 HP power figure is still in the pipeline, didn't hear about the 295 HP yet. I'm curious to hear about the final figure.

    The Cayman is derived from the Boxster, no reason to deny that fact; but why is that bad? The Boxster is a terrific car if one prefers a convertible. Anyway, a quote from well known literary figure probably applies here: "A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet".

    I dont think the cayman is anything other than a boxster. I wish it was just called the boxster coupe atually. I was just wondering if porsche gave it its own internal code since they also gave it its own name.

    The problem here is certain enthusiasts seem to take it as an insult or criticism of the Cayman by associating it with the Boxster, which I can't fathom at all. I guess RC might be right about the true reason, however.

    That also may be because people here usually prefix 'boxster coupe' with 'just a', implying that is a bad thing.
