    Roofbox for 997

    Hi all,

    I'm planning a holiday trip with my wife and my 3 month old son, all together in our 997.
    But with the baby in the back we don't have enough luggage space, so I decided to buy a roof box.
    I know, I know, a roofbox on a 911... but it's still better than NOT using the 997 to go on holidays...

    I have the Porsche Roof Transport System (bought it together with the car) so all I need is the box itself.
    I do not want to buy the Porsche roof box, because it sticks out to far and it's too expensive.
    I want a box that's about the same size as the roof (about 150 cm) and that is black.
    Thule does not have a black box of that size.
    I now found the Swedish brand MONT BLANC that has a box called the Triton 350 that is 165 cm long and is available in black.

    My questions:
    - anyone have experiences with roofboxes an a 997?
    - anyone know the brand Mont Blanc?
    - anyone know if brands like Thule & Mont Blanc fit on the Porsche Roof Transport System?
    - anyone have another model/brand suggestion?

    Look at Yakima ... they make an assortmant of boxes in different sizes. They have mounts for a variety of factory roof systems. The SpaceCadet 15S is 58" x 38". I've had Yakima gear for about 10 years now and moved it from car to car ...

    I too am interested in the Porsche Roof Transport System, and have a question? Can you store just the 2 rails completely in the back without infringing on the passenger space when they are not needed? are there any special tools required for attaching - detaching? Any other comments on this system?

    The Yakima brand does not seem to be available where I live (Europe, Belgium).

    Harold,

    The Roof Transport System comes with a small toolkit which you need to attach/detach the 2 rails.

    To transport them in the back: haven't tried it yet, seems possible, but if it's safe to have 2 metal
    bars lying arround in that back...

    Thanks for your suggestion.

    The Thule CASCADE 1500 is a bit too long (175 cm instead of ca. 150 cm) and it does not seem to be available here in Europe.

    Does anyone else have an idea? Thanks!

    Thanks for your reply and information. It's just a few times a year that I need to carry long lightweight items (like 12' plastic tubing) that I'm considering the transport system. I'd make a cloth sleeve to store the rails in the back and only put them on when (briefly) needed.

    I would just buy any box in the size I wanted.
    Then have someone paint it for me either black or even better, to match my car .

    thule evolution fits almost all mfg racks and is a fantastic box, large but very streamlined
