Don't know if this is part of the explanation, but my local Porsche/Noble mechanic says he heard there is a "run" on CF worldwide, possibly triggered by one of the big airplane manufacturers (? Airbus) building a new plane with tons of CF (and I thought I was hogging the stuff ). So CF might be on back-order in the car industry, as well. Not sure if this is impacting Porsche though.
Here's a bit of possibly related interesting news: I was provided a copy of the "GT3 Preliminary Order Guide for 2007 for North America". Its 25 pages long and is dated May 24. It came with a warning that not all options will be available on the first allocation cars.
However, there has been no mention from my dealer about any delay from the factory...I'm still told to expect my August allocation and an Oct delivery date.
Its pretty basic 997 without a lot of the ususal fluff--plenty of options for leather or painted interior parts and also a couple interesting things--aluminum wing mirrors, deviated upper/lower dash and floor/rear shelf carpet. There are 2 Sport Chrono pkgs listed--one comes with an analogue and "dash" timing system but the other offers PCM, analogue and digital chronometers, a sport button in the center console and so-called ability to adjust door locking, wipers, AC and interior lighting to suit personal preferences.
However, the order guide has NO CF Options in it except for the rear console.
This means, NO CF trim available for dash, NO CF door/footwell trim available, NO CF gear/steering wheel available and NO large/small carbon packages.
This in itself seems very unusual since the official UK and German car configurer sites have all of these listed as available options.
Also, FYI: there are no optional tires listed and no delete option for the standard sunroof.
