    PSE defect, valve flap vibration

    Forgot to mention in my report, only one fault,
    my exhaust has a distinct vibration noise, I know exactly what it is as I had it too on my 996, it's the valve that switches PSE off to on which doesn't open/ close properly despite the back pressure of the exhaust.
    You hear mostly at low revs, as at high revs, they is enough pressure for the valve to fully open or close.
    Not alarming but annoying as it sounds like something is vibrating in the exhaust, PSE on and off by the way.
    Scheduled for a visit at the dealer in two weeks for a checkup, I've already chatted about this with my mechanic, it's a common default on PSE exhausts, 996 and 997 (Alex UK seems to suffer from the same issue), usually, the exhaust gets completely replaced.

    My mufflers were replaced once, and they still suffered from the same thing. Are you suggesting Franch that the whole exhaust needs to be changed to fix it properly?

    I basically had 2 problems. The first was the rattle as you described. My OPC changed the mufflers (which didn't fix the problem), then they opened the muffler up and played with the open/close valves which they said were sticking. This got rid of the main problem (to replicate one example is being in 3rd gear at a constant 50mph).

    Then subsequently I had a more general new rattle independent of speed, heard more clearly with PSE switched off. This was fixed last week by my OPC but over the weekend it came back again.

    So back to the OPC for me!

    Not sure about the second rattle that you had.
    My friend mechanic told me that when they have such a problem, they usually don't even bother opening up the PSE, they change it with a new one under warranty.

    I'm gonna push for a new one, can't be bothered with a small defect that will come back later in time.

    BTW, I have to add that it doesn't pose a problem at all in terms of driving just this annoying noise but I tracked the car this weekend and it was 100% fine.

    They already changed it once under warranty, which is why they opened the 2nd one up. I may push for a new one if I can.

    Do you have the PSE always on mod? Some have mentioned that this causes problems like you've mentioned.

    I've driven 5k miles with my C2S with the PSE mod and so far nothing (touch wood). Maybe it's the exception and not the rule for PSE systems?

    No my PSE is 100% stock.
    Off in normal mode and in sport mode, On but switches off between 40 and 80 kmh (sort of).

    Alex keep in mind 2 things...

    IF you did the mod again there is a string chance that the md is helping the PSE failure....
    I got a PSE replacement and did not repeat the mod...no problems so far.

    Although there is a rumor that the mod itself does not harm the PSE, its the PSE that tend to malfunction..

    Moreover, did you got a single muffler replacement?
    I got the 2 set of mufflers totally replaced, and to tell the truth there isnt anything more in the PSE than these 2 mufflers.
    IF you look carefully at the exhaust parts, it basically consists of these 2 mufflers, plus the exhaust polished tips.

    I got both changed and i think its the whole PSE, so dont expect something to hange if you change the whole PSE., because PSE=2 mufflers plus polished tips

    i guess we got screwed cause the PSE is crap, and not magnificient sound either...
    maybe gemballa or tube was a better solution
