    Should I be worried?

I placed an order on Jan 10,2006. I'm within 120 days of when I'm supposed to pick her up- Fall Grand Tour in September- but still no paperwork/ confirmation of the order, etc.

Several months ago, PCNA confirmed that I'm #1 on the list for the Fall Grand Tour. However, my dealer has been stingy with information and I'm beginning to worry I've fallen through the cracks. He keeps telling me he'll get back to me, that he should hear something in a few days and that I'm " in good hands." Well, this has been going on for about six weeks. It just seems unusual that there's still no paperwork/ confirmation! I'm wondering if I should collect my deposit and try to go with another dealer before it's too late ( if not already). Perhaps I'll give him until next week. This sucks!

Any advice, guys? Should I be worried?
    TIA!

    Re: Should I be worried?

I'd say relax. Still almost four months away.

In what form was the confirmation from PCNA? Can you contact them?

    Re: Should I be worried?

Yeah, GA997S- 119 to be exact! Thanks, I'm probably just worrying needlessly- too much waiting.

I just sent her an e-mail! She e-mailed me a few months ago telling me I was on the list. Not sure this makes a difference though if the dealer drops the ball.

    Re: Should I be worried?

Try send a pm to sato , I recall that he experienced a similar situation. They're cranking 997's out in record quick time-- it will be there, best of luck.

    Re: Should I be worried?

You should at least have an ORDNUM on the order. Gabriele McFarland at PCNA will know if you're on her Fall Tour or not.

    Re: Should I be worried?

The final confirmation for my car was about 3 month prior to delivery.
Call him again, insist on having more information...

    Re: Should I be worried?

    Hi Richard,
My take - you're spending a bundle, I think you should demand the dealer provide you more info, more often.
I hope and think it's just "Waiter's Jitters" but you don't need them (dealer) to add to your apprehension.
Good luck, they probably won't be open until Tuesday.
    Don

    Re: Should I be worried?

Thanks a lot Damian, Dan ,Gnil and Don for the advice, info and support! Will do!

Hopefully I'll hear some positive news this week! I'll make a few more calls and send another message if necessary. Time seems to be getting relatively close and is going by faster than expected - so hopefully I'm just being a little too anxious.

    Cheers!

    Re: Should I be worried?

Tell him you want what you want. Make an appointment to go to dealership to get it. Do NOT be shy. THEY are supposed to be at YOUR service. THEY should be most happy to give YOU the information you want. WOW... . Just do it! (they're stoopid jerks to make you start to wonder if your major expenditure is on track).

    Re: Should I be worried?

Thanks MMD, I'm planning on stepping it up this week. I definitely think it's time to get something more concrete than just the dealers word and an e-mail from PCNA regarding being on the list for the tour.

Yeah, good. What's funny is those guys have "seen it all," ya know? I mean, like doctors or psychiatrists or cops they've seen the worst behavior from people. I doubt your "demand" for what PCNA would want and expect you to have will freak them out one bit (unless they're BSing you of course )

    Re: Should I be worried?

Agree, MMD! I also have to believe they want the money for my baby almost as much as I want my P-car.

    Cheers!

    Re: Should I be worried?

It is a gamble finding a competent dealer, especially concerning Tourist Delivery. At the end of the day, I received my car on the day promised to me. The problem is up until the Saturday before my Tuesday departure for Germany I had not received the relevant paperwork, even though I had made final payment over 30-days before. My dealer admits they did a crap job of managing the process.

The bottom line is the dealers have no direct communication with the Factory. PCNA is the sole conduit for their information. If a dealer has managed many Tourist Deliveries in the past then the communication with PCNA and in turn Porsche (AG) should be seamless. Since most dealers rarely if ever handle a Tourist Delivery they are figuring it out on the fly, while giving you the impression everything is under control.

If PCNA confirmed you are ok then it seems to me you should be fine. I assume this means your dealer has already had you complete the "Tourist Delivery Program - Acknowledgement of Terms and Conditions of Porsche Cars North America Tourist Delivery Program" and the "Tourist Delivery Program - Vehicle Order Form". If not get that done right away as these are the official documents required by PCNA.

The next step is your dealer will receive a memo from PCNA informing that Porsche (AG) has confirmed your delivery date and indicating that invoices and a packet of information for you will be sent by PCNA via Fed-ex/UPS to the dealer. Ask for a copy of that letter. While it is addressed to the dealer, it was the one item that gave me comfort that things were on track in Germany. That letter also let me know that I was due a coupon for one night's stay at the Graf Zeppelin hotel in Stuttgart; something my dealer failed to tell me.

Have I mentioned that my dealer was clueless?

The dealer then should inform you that your final deposit including VAT is due at least 30-days before delivery. You should be given the relevant Tourist Delivery materials no later than when you make that final deposit. But, as you can see above, the dealer has those materials in its possession when the invoices are delivered, so my guess is many dealers hold them back until you hand them the check.

Because yours is a Grand Tour I would hope that PCNA's confirmation letter to the dealer has already been delivered. My thought is four months out you have breathing room. Within three months everything should be clicking.

As far as changing dealers at this point, that may put your delivery at risk. I just don't know. You should already be in PCNA's system based upon your Order Reference Number with the dealer. In fact this is the number PCNA references when confirming the delivery date. I just don't know if that Order Reference Number is transferable to a new dealer.

    Best of luck!

    Re: Should I be worried?

Many, many thanks Sato for the detailed info! Glad everything worked out for you!

My dealer just sent me a reference #- not sure if this is important at this point??? He said more info will follow this week. Yeah, I've heard that before!

BTW, when was the deadline for adding options ( I'd like to add a few small leather options)?

    Thanks a lot again!

    Cheers!

    Re: Should I be worried?

Others here are better versed on how late you can add options. If I remember correctly 997toomey was able to work closely with his dealer to make last minute changes that would not disrupt his order schedule. My guess is since you are so far away from delivery you can easily make changes. Don't let a novice or disinterested dealer disuade you.

As far as the reference number your dealer gave you, that should be the same Order Reference Number that you are assigned the moment your order is placed by the dealer with PCNA. It will stay with you throughout the entire process. Ask the dealer to print out a "current" copy of your Pro Forma Invoice. Besides showing your Order Reference Number and the full detail of your order, that invoice shows your Order Status in code format. The code, as you know, is updated from time-to-time so a current print-out will give you a sense of where your car is in the system. Keep in mind however that the codes are updated by PCNA in the dealer's system on a bit of a lag.

At this point your order status should be in the most preliminary of phases, where it is just the confirmation of all the behind the scenes paperwork. Therefore, no need to heckle your dealer each week for a new code. The car really shouldn't be in production until as late as two-weeks before delivery.

    Re: Should I be worried?

    sato,

Much appreciated! Hopefully more info to come this week.
