    EVO Fast club 2006

In the latest issue of EVO mag is the Fast Club 2006 comparison with some interesting results...
    Winners-Lamborghini Gallardo(MY2006) and Audi RS4
    Good-Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Corvette Z06, BMW M6 and Porsche Carrera S(-20/LSD,PCCB)
Not so good-Porsche Cayman S(19",PASM) and Jaguar XK

Belive it or not Audi RS4 was faster 0-60mph and 0-100mph then Porsche Carrera S!
Gallardo(MY2006-520hp) was king of the track, almost 2s faster then Corvette Z06!
Audi RS4 was faster on track then Porsche Cayman S!
All in all very impressive article, IMO.

    Re: EVO Fast club 2006

I was told the Ascari AZ-1 won this test !!

    Re: EVO Fast club 2006

Yes, if you look at the subjective opinion form reviewers!
Even better, go to the news stand and buy this issue.
But, on the track Gallardo was faster then Ascari, Vette Z06 and rest...

    Re: EVO Fast club 2006

    Scans, please!

    Re: EVO Fast club 2006

Another interesting bit is that the Carrera S lapped around 2 seconds slower than the SportPacked Carrera S used in the AMV8 comparison. Before everyone gets a little defensive, the V8 went round 1 second slower too!

It appears that the LSD and Sport suspension make a huge difference to the car's handling.I guess that Ceramic brakes only real help on long repeated laps where brake fade is more likely to set in.

    Re: EVO Fast club 2006

The RS4 was faster to 100, that hurts

    Re: EVO Fast club 2006

What kind of lap could the RS4 manage in comparison to the Carrera S?

    Re: EVO Fast club 2006

They did say the tires on the 997S were past their best during the test. They also said the 997S time was 1.5sec slower round the track than the last time they tested it.

    Re: EVO Fast club 2006

Hum...if the Aston got a lower suspension and ceramic brakes, it could do a better time than the 997 S...Come on Aston! Give me the RS version!

    Re: EVO Fast club 2006

Whoever was the driver in that Z06 wasnt up to par for that test because there is now way the Z06 should lose to the Gallardo SE by 2 sec. The Z06 has the gallardo beat in every performace catagory! Dosnt make much sense.

The Bedford track is a road-biased track that favours handling over brute horsepower. The Z06's huge reserves of torque can work against it in some of the slower corners on a tight track. Evo's test drivers are generally very capable. They often employ professional drivers to set consistent lap times.

The lack of an lsd probably hampered the 911 too...

    Re: EVO Fast club 2006

The Top Speed test wasn't for real, was it? This cars can reach higher top speeds.

    Re: EVO Fast club 2006

Top speed was at Milbrook, a banked and bumpy test track in Bedfordshire.

Anyone who has driven it (incliding me) will tell you that anything over 150 is very exciting due to the wieght of the steering to drive round it, the bumps, the crosswinds and the proximity of the right hand barrier. So it's comparative. The fastest recorded was a Mclaren F1 at about 193 mph driven by Tiff Needell. The rear tyres were destroyed in the process.

    Re: EVO Fast club 2006

Oh by the way, the tester driving the 911S said it was the most frightening drive he ever did round there--20mm, rear engine and light front end

The 911 hasn't lost its charm...

For some reason that's comforting to hear.

    Re: EVO Fast club 2006

The M6 done quite well around the track... I'm quite suprised.
Really dissapointed by thr Caymans times though

    Re: EVO Fast club 2006

It's interesting that the time quoted above for the Carrera S was on the day time (with cooked tyres). It went more than a second quicker lap time on better rubber. Apparently before it set it's time some journos had been 'enjoying it'.

On the other hand the Porsche support technicial wasn't there either.!?

M6 has all the ingredients to be really great-it needs a diet and better brakes though IMHO. And at GBP 80,000 it's too much at list compared to a Carrera S at GBP66,000 excluding extras.
