997 Turbo or something else on Italian highway?

My friend send me now an MMS with a picture of a 997 Turbo on the street in front of him..

The car is going from Milano to Bologna,it seems to be meteor metallic(also if it doesn't exist now),have different rims, and back there isn't write Turbo, but something with 3 or 4 letters..he didn't go to kiss the bumper to read what there is write..

    this is the pictures..

Re: 997 Turbo on Italian highway

    It's a RUF

Re: 997 Turbo on Italian highway

    in fact..

for me it's not a regular 997 TT...also the rear wing seems to big..maybe you are right..maybe is a RUF

but he tell me that has the 997 turbo nose..and also the sides air inlet..

    i don't know...

Re: 997 Turbo on Italian highway

    It looks good anyway

That is correct, it is the Ruf Turbo version of the 997.
Similar wing to the Turbo but bigger.
Don't worry Darius, it's not a Porsche from the factory

Re: 997 Turbo on Italian highway

This is NOT a 997 Turbo. It has Munich license plates.

Re: 997 Turbo on Italian highway

my friend on the Highway was

    ciaoo

Re: 997 Turbo on Italian highway

It looks like a RUF and it very fat in the back!!!

Re: 997 Turbo or something else on Italian highway?

Yuck! Whatever it is, they ought to shoot it and put it out of its misery.

Re: 997 Turbo or something else on Italian highway?

    That's a RUF - 100%

Re: 997 Turbo or something else on Italian highway?

    looks wider than a 997TT

Re: 997 Turbo or something else on Italian highway?

At first I thought since its really wide at the back, maybe its a new 997 C4S with a RUF wing but once I brought it into Photoshop and brightened it up. It soon made sense it is in fact a RUF ...now it still does seem a bit wider than the image on the right (red) but that may depend on the camera or lens used to take the photo. lol maybe I'm still wrong

Re: 997 Turbo or something else on Italian highway?

after seeing that, looks like a ruf to me

Re: 997 Turbo or something else on Italian highway?

nice job 997 style, for me a RUF too

Re: 997 Turbo or something else on Italian highway?

    998!

Re: 997 Turbo or something else on Italian highway?

It's no doubt the Rt12. I'd take that car in a heartbeat. I wonder what Ruf will do on the basis of the 997TT?

Re: 997 Turbo or something else on Italian highway?

I think is the RUF Spoiler at the back. And then it misses the turbo's exhausts.

Pretty good question: right now, 911 Turbo tuners are still biting on a hard nutshell, like we say here. The new VTG technology is not easy to handle and a wrong ECU mapping could cause desaster. I'm pretty sure that it is going to take a while until we see something "serious" (with the exception of "simple" ECU software updates) from major Porsche tuners. Unless they're clever enough to put the "old" 996 Turbo engine into the new Turbo but I'm afraid it would not make the car any better, especially since the new electronic AWD is part of a "network" which isn't easy to control with aftermarket software.

Meaning: I would be VERY surprised to see a RUF Turbo based on the new 997 Turbo and the VTG technology any time soon.
Same applies to all major Porsche tuners, it will be pretty hard for them to offer some substantial HP increase.

Excellent work on the pshop comparo, 997Style!! Wish Darius' friend would've recorded the exhaust note on that.

I'm torn about which I would rather have-- one RT12 and one 997 C4S X51 (for Sunday drives), or a Carrera GT....if only my wife hadn't discovered the Swiss account.

Re: 997 Turbo or something else on Italian highway?

I think programming will be the least of their worries. Turbochargers and exhaust gas temperatures could prove to be a huge problem, unless they get Borg Warner to produce some bigger turbochargers for them. Boring out the engine to 3.8 liters could also help some, but I'm afraid you're right.
