    These photos show the same rims on the car as the ones we have seem lately on a camo car that was supposed to be the next GT3 . Some were doughting it was the next GT3 . Maybe they were right . Good thing Smiley

    Saw some real info (read scan of official sales material) about R yesterday.

    Yes, some claims that you wrote seems reasonable.  But, R is IMHO far cry from sportscar a la 991 GT3 or RS. It is more something like mixed bag of different parts wisely put together. I simply hate some things about R and the way Porsche marketing is explaining its merrits. 

    More when the car is officially out. It will for sure rise some eyebrows...

    What did you expect? Of course they are using parts from the existing parts bin, this is the only way this car is actually profitable but still, a very nice and interesting offer from Porsche and I would get one instantly if I could afford it right now (which I cannot, unfortunately). The only think which will rise some eyebrows will be very likely the price tag Smiley but nobody really expects the R to be a pure track car. It isn't.

    Let's put it this way:

    Manual die hard 911 fanatic? Smiley

    NA engine and manual as true manhood? Smiley

    Rare, partially unique 991 (911) and potential speculators dream? Smiley

    Pure "feel" or better "feel" then what 991.1 GT3/GT3 RS is providing? Smiley Smiley

    Faster on the road or track then 991.1 GT3/GT3 RS? Smiley Smiley Smiley

     

    More than half of the cars go to the US and according to what I heard, over 90% of the targeted US customers are demanding a manual transmission on such a car. Smiley

    This car will not be marketed as a GT or track car but a very special light weight limited edition model for the 911 aficionado. Smiley

    Better track car...very likely. Better car? Not really. You get better performance (straight line at least) and more interior room. For the price of a 911 R you could get, of course, two well equipped GT4. Smiley

    Also, no rear wing, very stealth and all those special badges and insignias will clearly show to people what they're dealing with. Trust me, whoever will drive a 911 R will be the "highlight" of every Porsche meet.

    The 911 R is basically a GT3 without rear wing and without PDK (still not clear but very likely). Chassis is GT3 derived and has nothing to do with the GTS.

    Theses rims are just the "ordinary" Turbo S wheels so don't see what's special about them Smiley

    They are not special , but could show that that it was the same car as this one . The R , and not the future Gt3.2.

    It would also make sense that they test the R with winter wheels  . Before they have not tested GT3's with winter wheels

    The 911 R is basically a GT3 without rear wing and without PDK (still not clear but very likely). Chassis is GT3 derived and has nothing to do with the GTS.

    So it is a product of Preuninger's team?

    it is in the standard 991s ..

    unless they develop a different/special manual gearbox for the R, which seems unlikely

    I have not driven the 7-speed PDK based manual but as I understand it it is not so very much involving or maybe it is?

    Totally unimpressed by the pics... The R will only be a small step in the right direction. Weight savings look minimal, no rear seat, no PDK and sort of bland styling... At GT3 prices it might make sense. At $160k not really, above is just ridiculous...

    I tried it before, it shifts fine, but I only used the 1st 5 gears anyway, no need for the last 2.

    The rev-match is cool, pedal effort is fine. I actually don't see anything wrong with it

    The club coupé is special, but not that special . Many country have these '' exclusive'' models made . It is done by the Local importers .

    Our club coupé , called Swiss limited edition, has been produced only at 14 pieces . Does it make it more exclusive  then the North American Club coupé ?

    And I am also joining a photo to the Dutch Club coupé . Also special and unique color as all the other '' special '' models .

    Your blue collection is great and special . But lets not get fooled by the '' speciality '' of it . I am still sure it bets better value then the others of course .

    To many others, my car is just a GTS with a special color, which is totally fine with me, as I would have gotten a GTS in other blue color anyway if club coupe is not available.  At least I do not feel being "rip off" by Porsche as my car does not cost a lot more than a usual GTS with PTS and duck tail added on.

    Driving the only car in your province (and one of 3 in your country) is a very good feeling that is priceless to me.  Future resale value is irrelevant to me as there is no plan of selling.

    Don't get me wrong too, I really like the concept of this 911R, as everything about this car is good.  The only thing that I dislike is the rumor that it may cost more than an RS, as I still don't see the reason why.yes

    I'm surprised about the comments saying that the R will be a worse track car than a GT4.  Why would this be?  The weight is in the same general category and the R has ~100hp more (with dry sump) and the GT3 (multi-link rear) suspension.  Why wouldn't this be a great track car (even if the GT3 and RS might have a bit more downforce)?  If it's basically a lightened GT3 with manual, sounds like a recipe for a pretty serious track car to me (and obviously great road car too).

    Even if it has to forego the e-diff and uses instead the mechanical LSD, this is same as GT4.

    because people think a track car have a big aero...I'm pretty sure this car is more fun on track and street...not in time but in pleasure of driving, the car seems a modern R gruppe :)

    Local Importers special editions are not really comparable with special editions sanctioned by Porsche itself such as the Club Coupes are (I don`t know about the 60 years CC but the 50 years CC had its own VIN sequences with the last two digit of the VIN replicating the serial n.).  The whole story behind the development ,starting from unique one off colors (at least at the beginning) and the buying process were very unique to the Club Coupes and contributed to make those 911s special, at least in the eyes of some enthusiasts. I do agree that technically they are not particularly special although it is worth to  consider that  X51 and PTS are among the rarest options you find on 911s.

    I've heard 4.0, but I'd still be happy with GT3 3.8 motor (latest version has some RS improvements).
