    2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

I typically purchase my cars at 5% over invoice - BMW's, Infiniti, Lexus, Cadillac (yikes! but it was for my parents), etc.

My MSRP on my Boxster S is $66995 or $67k. Their price to me was $5k off or $62k. I was hoping for $61300. Should I just take it at $62k? I really don't have time to "shop". I felt that 5% over invoice or 10% off (Porsche has about 15% margin) was plenty.

    Re: 2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

You can consider yourself lucky (or a really good negociator ) that you got so much off! I don't think anybody on this board has gotten 7.5% off so far.
In some countries, Porsche dealers don't even sell below MSRP. Not even free mats or Porsche caps.

    Re: 2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

In HK, we get no discount and no free mat... Porsche caps? no way... they are selling like hot cakes and the waiting list is like a 3-4 months for boxster and more for cayenne so consider yourself a lucky man...

    Re: 2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

Ditto here in Australia.. what discount? they'll say "take it or leave it". Having one dealer in every state I guess just does not help at all. However I did get some small "extras" thrown in.

    Re: 2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

PM me-I don't want to advertise the name of a dealer who offered me 6500 off MSRP for a 06 987 S--I persomally paid even less- (MSRP-$6850)

Take it. I had a car priced at roughly 66K but my MSRP was brought down to 61K.

Yes... and no! Discounts new equals depreciation used. So in countries where Porsche give no discount and carefully manage supply (as happens here in the UK) means you will benefit come sale time.

    Re: 2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

Maybe the Boxster is in bordeaux red, cream interior, Tiptronic, 16" wheels and a blue top?

    Re: 2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

Yeah man - but the best of both worlds is to buy your car in the EU where you get a cracking discount and then sell it eventually in the UK where the lack of discounts keeps resale prices higher!

PS: people I have spoken to who have sold cars in the UK which they bought elsewhere in the EU have said that the haircut they suffered was small compared to the discount they enjoyed on purchase.

    Re: 2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

Yes, then you do get the best of both worlds! But my comment was aimed at the US buyers that do get, in comparison with any other market, comparatively large discounts - and there are any number of US buyers on Rennteam complaining about how much money their cars are losing, both Boxster and Carrera.

    Re: 2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

Deals vary based on location but in LA without negotiating I'm getting that % off on a 07, here they are doing $1,000-$1,500 invoice on 06's..tons of Boxsters on lots.

    Re: 2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

As I stated previously, that situation would not happen here in the UK. Very rarely see an unsold new car here, unless it is a cancelled order. Even used cars, up to 12 months old have a sticker price close to new, particularly Carrera S. Surely the best option in the US financially is to buy low mileage used and let someone else suffer the hit when they first drove off the dealers forecourt?

    Re: 2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

Yes, that is the way to play the game in the U.S. However, if you are particular about colours and spec buying a low-mileage pre-owned Porsche is hard.

So, ordering your Porsche the way you want it *AND* getting $5-6K off the sticker is AWESOME.

But, I do see the other side. I knew the U.K. had higher prices and no discounts when new. But, I didn't know this benefited resale.

Brilliant spec. If I am feeling flush enough to purchase another Porsche, guards red with sand beige leather is the way I'd go. I'd like seal grey with sand beige, but wtsnet would accuse me of copy-cat

    Re: 2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

We had similar spec...mine was also built to order and I got a great discount. Go for it.

    Re: 2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

If I could make a suggestion, I would recommending skipping at least the auto climate control. I have it and rarely use the "auto" feature. Keep your five hundo. I also live in MA, so PM me if you want a contact at another dealer to compare with....

    Re: 2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

Hi guys...it's official...I'm a waiter!!! And thanks for all of the advice and opinions!! I look forward to making contributions myself!!!

    Re: 2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

    Congratulations!

I suggest you step away from this board until the car arrives, though. If you listen to us, you'll end up throwing in countless options until the dealer has to turn you down for your own sanity.

    I agree. Waste of money.

Wouldn't dream of it dear chap. Don't worry, we'd still be able to tell them apart - I've scratched my mark on mine with a 5p coin.

I would second the congratulations on spec, and wish you well for the wait. Better start exercising your face muscles in advance - you'll be grinning lots on delivery day.
(Oh, and... rear centre console in leather!! )

Congrats ! BTW: I saw a Guardsred Boxster with Sand interior and Cocoa top at a dealer nearby - looks really awesome in the flesh

    Re: 2006 Boxster S - Ok deal?

Uuuggghh!! The wait's been killing me already... and it's only been a few days... Take a look at the outgoing car, though...
