Any idea if the sunroof can be deleted? Maybe we have to pay $20k more for the RS to lose the roof?

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

    Sorry, no idea.

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

why would they not bring the CGT seats to the US? Can't wait hear the rennteam members who are interested in the GT3 complain about this.

They'll prolly be an "RS only" thing for the US market

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

There was a thread a while a go where some patent docs were posted. It had 2 types of seat for GT3. Euro 1 piece and 2 piece carbon -for US? Perhaps someone can point to the post.

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

If a car has rear seats (GT3) you have to be able to fold the seat backs on the front seats. US Regulations.

You're right, except for the fact that the GT3 does not have any.

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

According to US Reg it does.

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

Perhaps a clue to the 2 piece carbon seats for US?

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

Unbelivable-sunroof is standard on US GT3! As Fanch said what is next? A massage seats as in S-class MB!?

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

this is not fair for you guy in US.....

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

Probably because of crash testing. Porsche saved money by only certifying 997s with sunroofs. Its the same reason they do no yet offer a 997 non PASM sport suspension here - that also would require another round of certifcation and crash testing.

they're the most profitable auto maker, i think they can afford it!

somebody needs to go over to porsche HQ and slap around the bean counters

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

supposedly the Carrera GT style seats do not comply with US regulations regarding airbags for the thorax. saw this on some other forums regarding the same matter. however, i don't and can't understand how the Carrera GT gets away with it, unless these are new regulations for 2006/2007!

Regret to inform you of this, but there is no USA spec CGT for MY2006 or MY2007. All CGT production ended last week.

well, you explained why we won't see it on the US 997 GT3 then, as it probably doesn't comply with regulations!

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

What the USA market also will not get is the 90 liter fuel tank. Id rather have that than the CGT seats.

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

Please not a sunroof! This car shoud'nt be available with a sunroof at all! I'm verrrry disappaointed in PAG if this is true. Another example of treating it's #1 market with an attitude of presumptiousness.

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

Porsche pretty much dictates to its US dealers what they can and cannot get from the Porsche menue. Its always been like that. They know best is their attitude.

And in the early 80's Porsche actually considered getting rid of ALL of their US dealers and having customers go to one factory run sales office in Reno. They only backed out of that plan because their legal team could not find a way to get out of the contracts with existing dealers.

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

Bad news about the tank and the sunroof and the cgt seats. My dreampiece is being degraded!!

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

So you wont have a GT3 RS version in the states ?!?!

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

Aisxos, there will be a GT3RS version sold iin the states but it will not be for road use. It will be available through Porsche Motorsports. They have already sold some to
    race teams here.

Jim, you seem to be mixing up the 911 GT3 RS road car and the 911 GT3 RSR race car. The race car was also known as the 911 GT3 RS until about 2003, when it passed that name onto the road car and grew an extra "R" onto its name to try to make things slightly less confusing.

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

Yes, there will be a US-spec GT3RS for the road. We don't know what it will be though. Maybe:

    No sunroof
    2-piece reclining carbon race seats
Lighter weight (plastic rear window and more composite body panels
No TV-set (Nav) or center console
    Widebody (like C4/S)
Special colors (like old 2.7RS) and graphics
Larger rear spoiler and revised front airdam
    $20k more money

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

They need to make up their minds about nomenclature.

GT3, GT3R, RS, RSR et al..

RSR Should always be the designation for the non road version of the car.

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

This is all getting a real joke...

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

The cost of crashing another 997 GT3, spread over 1000 cars, is probably about $100 per car... I am surprised Porsche didn't figure how much extra money they could make by charging us all $1000 each for a 'sunroof delete" option!

    Absolutely not! $100 X 1000 = $100,000. There's no way it cost $100k to crash test a gt3. I would guess, maybe, $10k.

The damage to test equipment will alone will well exceed 10K!! Have you heard what a modern crash test dummy costs these days? Let alone the sensors, test rigs etc.. etc.. I wouldn't be surpised if 100K was a low figure. The cost of the car is no doubt the small part of it!

    Re: 997 GT3 - US version

Grant-Do we have any credible info that the RS version will actually make it to the US-or that the sunroof is not be an involuntary embedded option? Thanks for the info if you have it!
