    Wonderbar:

Suzy, do you mean rear side windows are not allowed to go down all the way?  And how is it related to privacy glass?  I thought the rear wheel well interfered with the rear glass, preventing the glass from descending all the way.  I am confused, thanks...

Sorry... My bad. Smiley I didn't read correct. I understood that you were talking about the fact that only the rear windows were tinted. No idea what I was thinking... (Those things happen when I have one task too much when I'm multitasking Smiley)

Regaring the fact that the rear windows don't go down all the way is because of safety reasons. It should prevent kids jumping out of the car when the get annoyed by their parents Smiley

You are correct. It is due to the intrusion of the wheel well . It also looks like the concave sculpting of the outer door skin on the rear door also would prevent the glass from descending any further.

It looks like the car is being shown in Rhodium Silver at Detroit and that the modern iteration of Houndstooth is the fabric of choice for the stand ladies outfits.

I can live with that legroom but what about the luggage room? This is actually my biggest concern.

From what I've seen, the boot is actually well-shaped and quite spacious; definitely not as small as I was afraid it might be so it should be satisfactory for your basic needs. I took two good photos of it that I'll post shortly.

New corporate theme. All cars will be monotone Rhodium silver on the floor, while the star of the show will have colour. In LA it was the Macan, in Detroit it is the Targa.

Thank you. Looking forward to seeing the pics. So far, I wasn't able to get some conclusive photos which actually let me get a good clue about the real size of the luggage room. Unbelievable, when I saw the car live, I didn't bother to look into the boot, stupid me. Smiley

Since I won't get one any time soon anyway, it doesn't really matter anymore but I still have the Turbo S on my mind and if it is going to be available in two years max., this may be our next family car. If not, the next Cayenne generation will have to do the job or, don't laugh, the next X5 M (I really don't want a BMW again but if Porsche makes the Cayenne too big and the Macan too small...well...what choice do I have?!).

Last day, i was for a little christmas snack at my dealer. i find out that Switzerland has already 300 hundred orders for the Macan. Most of them are Turbo's. For the 2014 Porsche will receive 1000 pieces. Not bad

Ordered a fully loaded Macan turbo to replace our 5 years old Cayenne TTS. April delivery. The color choices are not great (no red?) but we are thinking agate grey and black/red interior. Black side blades, RS 20" wheels, some carbon details inside. Total price under $100k, far cheaper than the $140k TTS.

Will post options later, what are the must haves?

Good for you!  My PCNA contacts tell me Macans will be allocated slowly so you are fortunate to get an April delivery.

A quick list of must haves, iMHO:

PTV, Sport Chrono, Air suspension, heated seats all around, PDLS., reverse camera.

My dealer tells me lane change assist adds value for future customers (I am not convinced).  I like Pano roof, but others don't.  I would also leave off he carbon side blades, but do some carbon touches inside as you mentioned.  Also, you might consider a seat belt color.  I am not sure about the red/black interior--i would go for Expresso with saddle seat belts.  I am sure other folks will have more suggestions..

    in any event, congratulations!

Your dealer is not wrong. It will add value for a future customer, on your cost Smiley Options are mostly write-offs for the first time buyer. There will be so many used Macans out there that one option more or less will make zero difference for your car when you sell it.

Well, that is my five cents. Get the options you want, that is it. Smiley

I've got both Lane Change Assist and Lane Keep Assist in my Audi and Lane Change Assist is a very nice feature IMO. I like it a lot and think it's worth the money. Lane keep assist however, is horrible! Luckilly it can be switched off....

it's a good thing Porsche offers these systems seperately.

Congratulations. Smiley The price difference vs. the Cayenne is really huge but let's just hope that Porsche doesn't "take care" of that with the facelift. Smiley

I wanted to order a Macan Turbo too and I had a slot available for a May delivery (I am curious about that April delivery because to my knowledge, German dealers get their first cars end of April or early May, so not so sure about April in the US Smiley) but decided not to order one because the lease cost was too high (similar to a brand-new 991 Cab with some nice options). All my sources told me that lease offers will be much better after a year or so, so I decided to wait. I really wanted the Macan Turbo but now the Boxster S (and the X3 as a family car) have to do. Smiley Buying would have been a different story: The rebate wasn't too great (vs. the 911 or Cayenne for example) but it wouldn't have really mattered much considering the price tag of the car. I didn't want to buy it though. Another possibility would be to get a 3-4 months old dealer Macan Turbo, still thinking about it but there is no urgency here. Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche Macan

I am getting most options, including lane assist and adaptative cruise control. I buy my cars and keep them 4-10 years, I am never regretted loading the car with options in that context, on the contrary. With the cars loaded I tend to keep them longer, thus it is a wash with the initial extra cost in the long run and I had a better car all along. Also I anticipated the depreciation on the Macan to be a lot less % wise than the Cayenne due to lower initial price point, not that it matters too much...

I will get the exterior side blades and black glossy exterior, agate grey is too dull for my tastes so the blades will make it more sporty looking and different. I might even paint the mirrors and/or the spoiler black or red...

I still love the 09 Cayenne TTS, fantastic car to drive, much more fun that you could imagine, but at 5 year old, I feel maintenance is really going to start to really creep up. Brakes alone are $4.5k on this car...

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche Macan

Hey again, SciFrog.  I like your Macan decision, but just wonder if you considered a Porsche certified pre-owned Turbo or Turbo S.  Seems like you can get a nice low mileage Turbo or S for about 20K more.  My guess is you want a new and exciting model with equal or better performance, but thought I would ask your thoughts anyway.  Thanks in advance.

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche Macan

I am not big on used cars unless they are exotics... And will not buy to a private guy for safety and tax deduction reasons (trade in). Also I don't need all the space of a Cayenne as I have a 7 seater beater, we don't do many family road trips, we take the plane ;) Also I like the idea of a car as fast car but with less power for efficiency. PDK should be better than the Cayenne box. Also want all the lane change and adaptive gizmos, hard to find on used cars.

Also buying a 3 year old car, I would likely change it after 2 years anyway so I'd rather buy a new one and change it after 4-5...

More importantly: the wife says she likes the Macan and the Cayenne is her car ;)

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche Macan

Why do Porsche drivers need Lane Change Assist and Lane Keeper Assist?  A lot the "safety" and assist options seem at odds with the intended Porsche focused driving experience.  Apparently as cars get smarter the drivers get lazier.

I drive 140 miles per day three days a week on mostly a 3 lane highway and never faster than 65mph. The electronic nannies are great tools as that kind of driving gets boring, even in a Porsche...

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche Macan

SciFrog, what does premium package plus include on the Macan Turbo?  Configurator is confusing...

Also, can you post your options?

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche Macan

i visited today the Vienna Car Show and the Macan was presented there. Car was Macan Turbo Basalt Black. For me it looks even better in real then on the pictures. The interior and overall build quality is top notch. The luggage compartment is imho comparable to the Q5. For the back seats you need to be maybe below 180cm in size (headroom) to sit comfortable for longer distances. Overall im very impressed with the car. Looking forward to delivery in April :)

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche Macan

Here are some interesting news for Macan lovers:

According to Porsche, they have sold out the whole 2014 production in Germany.

It seems that in some other countries, the situation is similar.

Therefore, Porsche apparently decided to increase yearly Macan production from 50000 units to 80000 units as fast as possible.

This could be good news for Macan loves: If the Macan is a huge success, expect more options and more engine variations, including the rumored Turbo S. Even a GTS isn't ruled out anymore at this point as far as I heard.

Interesting times ahead for Macan lovers. blush

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche Macan

They may need to make 100K Macans a year.

They have stumbled into something - a almost generic, stealthy look but with a Porsche soul. Perfect for its time.

These days not everyone wants the" 911 look"  for whatever socio political reason. And some people cant use a 911s performance on their roads and like sitting up higher than a sedan or sports car in traffic. Macan apparently will offer a strong turbo motor and that Porsche handling feel but in a package that blends in with many other vehicles on the road.

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche Macan

I also think that the Cayenne became too expensive over time. I see mostly Cayenne Diesel or Cayenne GTS driving around, in the past I saw so many Cayenne S or even Turbo. The Macan surely fills a performance/value gap.

The first Cayenne Turbo started under 100k EUR (99876 EUR). The current Cayenne Turbo starts at almost 124k EUR. This is a price increase of 24% over 12 years. Not that it was cheap in 2002. Smiley Actually, a fully equipped Macan Turbo with better performance than the first Cayenne Turbo, is the same money as the "naked" Cayenne Turbo in 2002. Interesting.

So I guess the Cayenne will get some sort of bump in the SUV hierarchy at Porsche. I just hope that, now that Audi is responsible for SUV development, the Cayenne and the Macan get the attention they deserve. In the case of the Macan I have no doubt about it but let's hope the next Cayenne generation will deliver too. A rebadged Audi SUV won't cut it, not that I'm worried that it is going to happen.

As far as I know, higher capacities were planned in from the beginning but I guess they need to hire more people and training them properly takes time. The cars are actually "only" assembled in Leipzig, so there isn't much which could go wrong but of course nothing can be excluded, especially when a production starts and when a production is raised.

I sure hope they don't release a Turbo S just yet. I'd get the Turbo S if it was available. I'd be one unhappy customer. They released a Turbo S model for both the Cayenne and Panamera for the mid cycle refresh, and I'm fine with that. My lease will be up by then.

I actually have a bone to pick about the Macan's quality. When I sat in the S Diesel model on display at Harrods - and mind you, this was technically a pre-production model for whatever formality's worth - I noticed some hard, scratchy plastic below the center console in the bit that houses the cupholders and I thought it looked and felt a bit crude in an otherwise beautifully built cockpit. Also, the inner part of the tailgate [the back part of the door] is covered in hard textured plastic and not carpeted/softened like the one on the Cayenne. It doesn't feel solid or look good [plus it knocks very loudly and feels terrible] so I'm a bit miffed at those little details.

With regards to pricing - I was speaking to the brand manager at my local dealer last night and he said that the Cayenne's facelift and forthcoming generation will only take the Cayenne into higher categories than we're used to as well as agreeing that the Macan [at least in Kuwait where the Turbo's base price starts above the base price of a Cayenne GTS] might be priced too high. I'm starting to think that Porsche is asking too much for a stingily-equipped base vehicle and then charging the crap out of you for every conceivable option. Granted, people still buy them and their cars are at the very best level in the market but you can't help but feel gouged at every opportunity.

Well, judging by the Cayenne and now Macan sales/order figures in Germany, I would say that people are willing to pay the price. Yes, I agree, I too think that prices got out of hand a little bit lately but as long as people are willing to actually pay the price, well... yes Compared to the Cayenne, the Macan is kind of a bargain or at least it lets people believe so. This is actually the best marketing argument for the Macan, a small Cayenne at a much lower price tag. No wonder the Macan sells like crazy. I think Porsche marketing got it right.

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche Macan

was helping my sister with her Macan S Diesel configuration last night .. her no frills car came to £51k. We then specced a Cayenne Diesel Platinum Edition to a similar level, resulting in £53.7k.

With no discounts on Macan and long wait, I told her it's best to order to the Cayenne for the same price (I assume £2.7k discount is achievable). It's the better car, more suitable for family use (rear space and load space [670 litres Cayenne, 500 litres Macan]) and no wait. She's not bothered about pending Cayenne facelift.

Also, Cayenne is not so much bigger than Macan (around 14cm longer and 1 or 2 cm wider). She's test driving a Cayenne this week hopefully.
