An excellent rejoinder to the question of speed versus driving experience. I too do not need to have the fast car on my block nor do I need to have the quickest shift times. That said, if others want the fastest car on the block, let the manufacturers provide; however, those same manufacturers should not neglect the other set of owners.
One the allocation front, my small dealer has stated that their allotment is three for the year.

2013 and 2014 a total of three?
If it is true that Franchitti ordered a GT3 doesn't that undermine his arguments in the above piece?
So would the 599, Carrera GT, Testarosa amongst many other cars he owns/has owned.
I have read many of his coloums. One of his favourite cars in his collection is a long hood hot rod using a 9993 engine making 300 hp!
I think what hes saying is the car doesnt have to be fast to be a peach and a really good driving experience. I feel that way with my older Porsches too. But that doesnt preclude him from wanting the lastest harder core performance machinery when it does become available. Im sure you will find he has a very good idea about how the new 991 Gt3 works and probably has already driven since he placed the order or write that column - he will at very least know a few of his racing buddies that have done some developement laps perhaps and given him some early feedback.
Yeah. I'd doubt his decision isn't based on reading all the junk posted on internet forums!!
No reason to doubt his statement that he hasn't driven it, but a fellow like him is likely within the inner circle of information about how epic the new metal will be. :D

Agreed. Sorry - mean he has likely driven it since that column was written (which was probably May). Actually maybe he is Chris Harris! Have you ever seen the two of them in the same room together at the same time!!!
Funny! Nobody has seen me in the same room with Dario Franchitti or Chis Harris either. Make your own conclusions...
He mentioned that he ordered a 991 GT3 in the very same article above but why should he lie about purchasing the car before a possible testdrive? I am just surprised about his appreciation of the F50, as many people seem to dislike it. Possibly it is the engine bolted to the chassis that reminds him of his workplace?
Ferdie. Please re read my email. You will see I am saying he wasnt lying when he wrote it. It was likely written 6 weeks ago on deadline for the magazine print date. Since then Peter, Chris and AutoSport have had brief access (7 June) to the car which has been well publicised by now.
Im simply saying it would not surprise me at all if he has by now driven the car. I understand there are now a number or publicity cars around in the UK, USA, Europe so Im sure some Porsche exec has read his column and asked by now if he would like to try it....

It is obvious that Porsche is trying to control the manufacturing and delivery process for a number of reasons.
One that you might not consider may be the average CO2 emissions per manufactured cars during a year...
So true, and this is probably the real reason behind the decision for the PDK only GT3.

Macca,
I didn´t doubt your above given comment. It was rather a humorous note regarding the relevance and substance of Franchitti´s post, that some were questioning further above. I do not think that he contradicts himself, the GT3 might be a car that provides plenty of input despite being a very powerful and fast car and equipped with plenty of modern technology. It should actually be of no further relevance whether he has driven the car by now. Maybe the information that your friend from the N´ring gave you has spread around Franchitti as well, that the car will positively surprise many people once the first cars have been sent out to journalists.

That's awesome. I should have added that to my list in the Rennlist thread on this article!

Not to worry Frayed. Im sure pretty soon someone over there will declare they are lovers thus invalidating either of their opinions on the 991 GT3 LOL!

Your dealer must have a lot of influence with Porsche. My dealer (a Premiere large dealer) is getting one build in November, one in December, two for the first quarter, two for the second quarter of 2014 and only three more for the entire year. A total of nine cars. How a dealer in Canada can get 5 this year is beyond my comprehension. The system is rigged.
Could be the skewed demographic here. There are LOTS of mainland Chinese students here, they have no concept of money, to them it's just a phone call to sugar daddy in Chinese away. When those kids go hang out at some place, it's not unusual to have over $ 10-15mil worth of cars sitting out front, name your super exotic and there will be multiple of them among them. Wanna see a Aventador? How about 4 of them end to end. 599GTO? 2 wrapped one on the other corner. GT3RS 3.8 or 4.0? 5 of them in another group. 458? 8 sitting right here. Newest version of Gallardo? Also present.
It was just stupid watching them roll around town. 90210 has nothing on these kids.

I just checked the allocations at my dealer . He gets 2 cars this year and he does not know how many for next year .
I made an pre-order for a GT3 RS . He thinks he might only get one .
That is great Gnil. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
If I don't fly, I drive my .:RS

gave in cause it has an automatic and fiat's are prone to insufferable depreciation if you actually drive them. :D
So, the Fiat is a better trinket than useable automobile, which is not surprising, since several of my friends' F-cars tend to take up garage, and not road, space. A neighbor prides himself that his 430 spider has less than fifty miles on the odometer. Another and business associate expressed consternation that people looked at him when he drove his red 430 spider. He said that never happened when he drove his Turbo Cabriolet...
