    my little 964 C2

    Hi guys,

If you agree I'd like to present you a bit more my 964 C2. She has been originaly registred in Italy in Sept. '93 and has her identification number accordingly wpozzz96 z P...

    It is a coupe: 964 330

    Color: L92E / SW

    Option: C07 220 231 403 573

    220 Locking differential
231 choice of tyres (bridgestone/conti/michelin or pirelli) (968)
    403 Pressure cast 17" wheels
    573 Air conditioner

Being a petrolhead since many many years, I always had the dream to own a sport car but honestly speaking I was genuinely thinking it would never be possible and I did not really know what car I would like the most...

I had then the opportunity to go on track day with a friend of mine (was not a friend of mine back then) whose dad was a BMW dealer. I went with my company car which was back in 2007 an Audi A4 Station Wagon 3.0 V6TDI... Well I agree a diesel is not the best but the car was powerfull enough to my opinion. Anyway... So it was a great occasion for me to talk to Porsche, Ferrari and Lotus owners.

After few hours there and lots of discussions, the decision was made: I am going to buy one those beauties ! My personnal specs were as follow:

    - coupe

    - 2+2 because my 2 boys would have killed me if they would not be able to come with me for nice long drive

    -   a robust car which allows me to drive a lot, take the family for long week-ends, go for road trips and sometime for track days

    - no modern car

Well, it did not take long to find the right car: IT WILL BE A 964 C2 and specifically a C2!

I read then all what I could find on the internet on Porsches and the 964 and I started to be a bit worry: fake mileage, issues with the MY < 92...was ready for a long long search.

I have been very lucky, she was only the 3rd car I have seen and it was it! less than 2 months after starting to look for it, she was in my garage.

Still remember vividly the very day I had it. My and my wife, woke up pretty early like 4am, took a taxi to Paris Gare de Lyon train station and headed south. Well woke-up... not really actually, did not sleep at all that night.

We arrived around 10am in Valence, the guy was waiting for us at the train station. As soon as I saw it, I knew we will drive back in a 911!!!

The drive back was just absolutely great, you all know guys what it feels to drive for the very first time in your very first real car... OMG, just talking about it gives the goose bump....

When we arrived at home, my 2 boys who did not know why they had to stay at my parents were very very excited...

It was in Oct. 2007. Since we drove 50 000km...

    Re: my little 964 C2

Congratulations! Wonderful story , the 964 is a great drive specially the C2 . They are still fast cars also by today`s standards and extremely involving and fun.  I guess yours is among the last 964s produced by Porsche  being a 1993 production . Please post more pictures of your 964 please.

Those cars are so well built, if properly maintained are really bullet proof.  My next 911 will either be a 991 (unlikely but my wife likes it) or (i like it) a 964 3.6 Turbo .

Where/how do you drive (or enjoy) it in France?  Last time I went (with a Porsche in 2008) to France I drove the Route Napoleon and had great fun but lots of police and radar traps on the highways. I remember the times (beginning of 90s) when you could drive rather fast without really worrying too much. Times have changed .

    Re: my little 964 C2

yes the 964 is a robust car. As for the maintenance, I have done quite a lot: clutch, eibach spring, breaks complete redone, new double ignitor (not sure of the english name), change the white turn signal to orange original OEM part, painted the wheels, new engine shocks (not sure either of the name, it is 2 parts which are at the far right and left end side in the engine room), new rear lights as well as the Porsche band plus obviously normal regular maintenance...

As for the use, we made with some friends a very nice road trip some years ago: a portion of the route Napoleon ( ;-) ) and then pretty much all around the Alps in France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and back through Germany and the autobahns with a stop at the Porsche Museum. 4000km in 6 days!!! just great.

On a more daily or weekly base, I have the chance to live in a very nice area with tons of very small and winding roads

Not surprisingly, I love my 1990 C2....I've had it since 1998.

It was.built in the first 2 weeks of C2 production in September 1989.

Ah! Enjoy it but beleive me check-up your breaks before and use high temp oil ;-)

it is so stip that sometimes the under body front end touches the road in the air pin...

    Great car!

    Re: my little 964 C2

Your car stands out wonderfully - I love the decals and the 964C2 really sits up nicely - it always reminds me of a staffie (dog) - for some reason.

Funny - my next Porsche will be an older one - not a newer one.  I really have no interest in improving upon what I have in terms of performance - what I want next is more nostalgia...

You are not the only one doing it. I know a bunch of guys who have sold their 996/997 to go back with older generations. Especially in France where the repression on the roads is killing...

    My sentiments exactly!

Keep your 997 and add an older 911 to the stable Budster - you won't be disappointed.  Only problem is which one to choose...

    Re: my little 964 C2

Yes I should have mentioned that selling the GTS wasn't part of the plan - the next one wwill be an addition!  It could be anything - 911SC, 964 or 993.  But it will be immaculate and be driven - alot.

    Then there's that Singer again...!

I read that between the lines, and was sort of reiterating it for you...

As much as I love that Singer, I say skip it and buy all the above, in immaculate form, plus a Garage!!

If I had WAY more money, the the Singer would be on my list.  I probably wouldn't drive it as often, or as hard though.

    Looking forward to your reveal...

Not a bad idea at all - in fact brilliant!

    Budster

I'm curious: why an SC and not a 3.2 Carrera? I'm more or less on the same exercise having recently decided a new Cayman S is simply not worth the quote of circa R945 000 for a car specced with items you would actually want in a "drivers" car. My understanding is that a post  '84   is actually the best of the G-series (better gearbox etc.). Maybe there's something I'm not aware of?

    Re: my little 964 C2

The G50 gearbox is in the '87-'89 models.

    Re: my little 964 C2

Yes and the 915 is not that bad either.

    Re: my little 964 C2

Hi Werner - no reason really, I used the designation SC very loosely to suggest that I was referring to a pre 964 model...   Earlier 3.0 or later 3.2 would do just as well!

Would it be your 2nd car..?  What do you have currently?

Budster, since you seem to appreciate the feel and nostalgia of the older models, wouldn't you consider changing the GTS for a 996 RS for example? Or do you really need the back seats?

    911ster:

Yes and the 915 is not that bad either.

Well, they can be quite good or truly horrible depending on condition.  I like the feel on the mechanical clutch much better than the hydraulic unit with the G50.

With 915, you need to have a good one - I had mine custom built by WEVO in California and it is great (all their options like shifter, coupler, custom ratios, Guard LSD, oil cooler, side cover, etc.).  Huge improvement!Smiley

    Re: my little 964 C2

    Budster

Sold my '07 Cayman S some time ago. Thought I wanted the new one until I drove one 2 weeks ago. In real life it looks great. Much better than the old one. Was impressed but somehow underwhelmed at the same time. Despite the salesperson's strongest denial and "dated technology and architecture"- sales pitch, I still think a 997 is more car for the money regardless of how rail like it may handle. Also, as I type this, I now remember what I hated about the Cayman - every snot nose in his hatchback or wannabe slick in his 3 series always tried to provoke a race. If buying used today my view is that a GTS represents the best value for money. The problem is that the "stupid Singer" Smiley came along and now I'm losing sleep over aircooled! I find myself reading old reviews of 964's. In the mid 90's straight out of articles I used to own a '72 911 2.2 E, pastel blue (the best Porsche I could afford at the time). I never thought about going backwards until I started reading about the Singer. I clearly remember how tail happy it was with a HUGH amount of body roll yet lots of fun at the same time.(Ironically a 308 QV GTS which came along later made a much better job of trying to kill me than the 911 ever did - because of higher speed.) That's my sports car history in a nutshell - ignoring an SLK somewhere in the mix and which will only give the impression I'm a hairdresser. Looking at 911ster's car how can you not love a classic 911? We have some very good Porsche specialists around here and maybe a sorted "RS tribute" is not such a bad thing.

To answer your question: it'll be my 2nd car - my dd is a capable, but shouting responsible family man, F10 530d sport. Wyfie drives a sexy 1 series coupe sport - her dream is a 356 so permission wise I'm sorted.

P.S. Typing from the desktop in my study hence "Spoed" as opposed to Werner.

    911ster - nice car! You've planted a little seed

    +1 Smiley

I couldn't agree more. I recently saw a beautiful 1960's SWB 911 and you know that itch you were talking about... Smiley

I'm currently on the hunt for a late 1968/1969 911E or 911S and I'm astonished at the prices for good ones Smiley
