Porsche 918 vs McLaren P1 vs LaFerrari...
(23 March 2013)
When it happens, when these three leviathans of the hypercar world meet, finally, on neutral ground and at a venue that’s commensurate with their capabilities – at the Nurburgring, say – it will be the greatest group test of all time. For the time being, though, we can merely dote upon them, speculate about how they might square up to one another technically, and try to establish what the differences in their real world performance envelopes might be.

Three marvelous cars, but Porsche mispriced the 918... $200k too high
From these three, 918 seems the most valuable in therms of implemented technology...
+1. Even not telling about bespoke engine.
About interior - P1 looks cheap, Laferrari shares lots of components from fellow models. And only 918 has mostly special made parts.

Interesting comment from a user (FXEFFECTS) on Ferrarichat.
"BLOWN AWAY AT WEISSACH!
Visited Weissach (Porsche development centre) this week to spec my car and I now realise how wrong so many have been to dismiss the 918.
I have now seen THE FIRST full production car and it is astounding. The prototypes that have been shown in US and the middle east and the clay car shown at Goodwood in the UK are only a precursor of what is to come.
The engineering and quality and finish of the car make the La fer and P1 and the other crop of hyper cars out there look mediocre. I have studied all three in the flesh closely.
All the numbers we will be significantly better than those released to date. HP(795) WILL BE UP SUBSTANTIALLY(875?). Weight will be down. Ring time of <7m will happen.
Its a targa, it will travel at 150 kmh on electric alone and steers with all four wheels. This car will without doubt provide the incredible driving sensation.
I was blown away!
The only car not yet official is the 918 and it will become so in Frankfurt in September.
Porsche have played a clever game here as most people think they know what this car is all about and its not in the mix. Well not only have they gained on the pack from what i saw but they have another six months to refine the car and enhance performance .
Ferrari and Mac have fixed as of Geneva.
I am in no way biased as I have ordered all 3 cars. But the big surprise will be the German car for sure."
WOW pxaxh - I'm impressed by your order list!
Regarding the 918 - yes, I think also that with the change of the design of the rear and front lights the car will give a fresher up and new look we haven't seen yet. Technology might also be the most advanced.
But the Ferrari always will be more iconic. Take a Carrera GT and the Enzo - almost same age - technology might be more advanced on the Porsche. But put both car into a city and the Enzo will be the one drawing all the attention. Probably not because it looks better but because of the Ferrari icon and history!

Give me the choice between an Enzo and a Carrera GT, I would choose the Carrera GT any time.
I hope Porsche gets it right again and the same goes for the 918/Larifari, but for this the 918 has to become substantially lighter and needs some extra horses as well.
The secret of life is to admire without desiring.

Really? - I would make it probably depending how much I would like to drive the car. The GT is a daily usable car, while the Enzo is a race car supercar. Hard to handle in daily traffic! ..... I would take the Enzo!

History? I always thought that porsche history is the same if not greater than ferraris.
about 918 -great news! Never doubted in german engineering and intelligence.

Hm... in my opinion the CGT was a very uncommon car for Porsche as a supercar. No active suspension, no all-wheel drive, no turbocharger, no innovative aerodynamics... its innovative features were under the surface and only appreciated by the enthusiast, such as the carbon-ceramic clutch and the subsequently low center of gravity or its handling character that supports the skilled driver but challenges the innocent driver. The Enzo on the other hand is surprisingly technical in its design as well as concept. Interestingly, the CGT had a very characteristic engine note that its predecessors were devoid of.
I am actually not sure that the Enzo would draw more attention than the CGT... that might´ve been different among F40 and 959 or F50 and GT1.
I thought delivery of the 918 will begin in September. Also, many purchasers have been to Weissach some time ago including our own Futch. Why invite them to show a car that does not resemble anything near the finished product AND subsequently substantially improve all the performance parameters? That is a hell of a way to sell a car. Based on Futch's visit and understanding of the performance of the 918 he cancelled his order which I suspect others have done.
Something is not right.

I am still digesting what pxaxh garage is going to look like!!!!!
Ahem,
the comment is held in quotation marks so I don´t think it is his but the member of Fchat´s garage.
Lol, true, I even said "Interesting comment from a user (FXEFFECTS) on Ferrarichat." in my post :P

I agree Nick. I'm having a hard time with this too. However, I really hope that it is true.
(Also - the behavior described is not very Porsche like. - Their camouflaged cars tend to land up looking almost exactly like the final product )

sorry - am having trouble with quotes (I am overseas with slow Internet) but my last post was in response to the comment that the next Bugatti will crush anything.
Current Venom has around 1250 hp. Next Veyron will have 1600. 350 hp difference...

LeFerrari is too vulgar, too much catered to the Russian/Chinese taste. Not my cup of tea.
P1, just spent the afternoon visiting the McLaren headquarters, got blown away by everything, but I think I will pass on the P1 after the visit.
918 is back on the radar again, when I go back home I am going to check to see if I can get an allocation. It is the most eye pleasing car after all, classic timeless shape.

You could not buy a LaFerrari if you wanted to. They are sold out.

That would be point number 2, after point number 1. haha.
