    956-009

Here she is, just flown in from NYC. Factory car. 1 of 10. Arguably one of the 3 most important 956 ever made.

Word champion with Stefan Bellof in 1984. Her history is like few other cars:

    1983
1000 km de Fuji winner et pole
1000 km de Kyalami winner et pole

    1984
1000 km de Monza winner et pole
1000 km de Silverstone  10th et 3eme temps
1000 km de Nurburgring winner et pole
1000 km de Mosport 4 eme et pole
1000 km de Spa winner et 3eme temps
1000 km de Fuji winner et pole
1000 km de Sandown winner et pole

    1985
1000 km de Mugelo Test car
1000 km de Monza 2nd et 6 eme temps
1000 km de silverstone 2nd et 3 eme temps
24 H du Mans Test car
    1000 km hockenheim test car
    1000 km Fuji test car

    1986
    360 km monza test car
1000 km de Silverstone test car
    24h du mans test car

The best sports car of the 80s, sitting alongside the best sports car of the 90s.

I know the 917 is a very important car for Porsche but their values have gone thru the roof. 956/ 962, not yet. The 962 is quicker car but the 956 is the one to collect, as Porsche only made 10 factory cars.

Quite simply the most successful sports car ever made, total domination of Group C from 1982 to 1992. 10 years!

I need to lie down now, can't even find the right words anymore.

Both cars leave for the continent later this month and I will drive them both on the track early March, impressions to follow.

    Re: 956-009

Without a doubt you have the collection with the best historic value in all of RT ! Like Carlos said, congratulations just aren't enough. The car looks fantastic and having it parked alongside the F1 and Singer just brings out the fact that you are above and beyond just buying a lot of cars, this is a well curated compilation of works of art.

Ive said it before and I'll say it again, thank you so much for shaing the experience with us.

    wink

    Re: 956-009

WOW! Congrats Futch! Perfect collection indeed!

    --

There is no try. Just do.

    Re: 956-009

Unbelievable that a mortal can buy this, makes working hard worthwhile I would say... Just incredible that Porsche doesn't go out and buys these kinds of cars up for preservation and their historic value alone. Well, it leaves amazing opportunities to own such a car and that's gotta be great.

So many congrats, 2013 is a good year for you angel what a fantastic car wink

    Re: 956-009

    Bravo!!! Nice find indeed.

    Secondly, is THAT your garage?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!

    Re: 956-009

    What a collection Futch! heartkisswink

    Re: 956-009

    You are crazy Francois...smiley

Give me a call when you rent Le Mans and have enough cars to replicate a full Le Mans field. I will happily drive any of them.

    /Thomas

    Re: 956-009

Now we are talking!!!!!! MANY CONGRATULATIONS !!!

Francois- this is simply unbelievable! You have made my day...(and I am more than 10K km away from you).

Carlos - I think that that chassis was written off. Bellof tried for a faster time on the next lap and had a big accident. I'll try and find the pictures.

My appologies - I just checked, and it was a different occasion to the 6:11.

He had done 6:22 on the previous lap and then tried to go faster and had a massive accident.

It is then possible that this is in fact the chassis, although the record was set in 1983.

    Thank you guys.

Carlito, I have asked myself that question too. It is possible as 956-009 existed and won some races in 83 but I just can't find the relevant history for that Bellof lap. If that were the case, this would be the cherry on the cake!Smiley To not only own a Rothmans 956 but THE one that has the all time record on the Nordschleife! But I doubt it. In 83 Bell and Mass won the race and next year, it was Bell and Bellof but not on 009.

Bellof was an all time hero and very tragically died at Eau rouge on board a 956 actually. I think Ickx never recovered from that one even though it wasn't his fault. Hard to believe there was no run off in those days.

The cockpit is tiny for such a huge car, a bit scary frankly, your feet are very very forward in the chassis.

In all fairness, this is museum piece and I am totally not worthy, I will do a few laps, just for the sake of it, I think I will wet my pants before I even feel an ounce of ground effect and then thank the lord I made it without getting hurt and tuck away 009 in my garage. I predict the F1 to be much much easier to drive, which it should be of course.

No this is not my garage but Joe Macari in London. He handles most of my  road cars and is one of the nicest human beings alive.

This car is an automotive monument. Bellof's car!!!

It is also an automotive investment for the future.

Thank you guys again. Yes I have a 2006 Carrera GT since 2008, over 25000 km and still the most exciting road car I own today, although sadly I don't drive as much as I used to.

The 956 is definitely an investment, time will tell of course but I think they are going up, especially the factory cars and especially, a world champion.

The 918, compared to this purchase is at the other end of the spectrum. A stupid act of blind faith. More on this story in my next thread regarding another new car I bought but totally different, a Cayenne.

    Thanks again Rennteamers!Smiley

    Re: 956-009

Futch, its very obvious that you don't do things by half but go the whole nine yards ! Congrats on the new purchase and I hope you enjoy every inch of it ! Pure Class buddy  Smiley

No this is not my garage but Joe Macari in London. He handles most of my  road cars and is one of the nicest human beings alive.

Mike (W8MM) owned a 962 that he took to the track and I remember him mentioning that the aerodinamics work in such a way in those cars that you can drive it either slow or really fast, but not in between because the aerodinamics only start to work at speed and thats when it really sticks and bellow that you had very little and did not handle like it was supposed or designed to.

Must be quite an experience even if for a few laps just to see how it is, but that is indeed a museum piece to keep like a jewel. This is by far IMO the jewel of your awesome collection, its unbelivebale owning such a piece of history, I'm still in awe, I'm so happy for you! Smiley
