    991 turbo-no fixed wing? Confirmed?

    Is it true the 991 turbo will have no fixed tail wing? I see these showing none:

    I might reconsider buying one if that ugly appendage is gone, even though there's not much real need for it given how amazingly good my 991s cab is, my lord I actually drove it 10k miles to the first oil change, something I advent done in 10 or 15 cars.!!!!

    Those are very old spy-shots of the Turbo. They probably weren't in need for one as they were testing the engine..etc. I am quite sure the Turbo will have a fixed rear wing, because it is there in all the recent spy-shots :).

    Like you I am not a fix wing person but in Porsche's case I believe it enhances the look especially on Cabs. Without the wing, the Beetle like appearance of the backend is dreadful.Smiley

    They wanted to go a Panamera approach, meaning that the wing will extract and fold out but apparently they abandoned this idea for marketing reasons. As far as I know, the wing will be visible but there is also going to be an aerokit turbo, so maybe they went for the simple design on the regular car. Don't have details yet. All I know for sure is a tri-turbo engine and the already discussed four wheel steering, power at minimum 525 hp for the base car.

    They wanted to go a Panamera approach, meaning that the wing will extract and fold out but apparently they abandoned this idea for marketing reasons. 

    Obviously, marketing won over engineering , on this point, as they probably know that some buy a Turbo just for the iconic now vestigial whale tail wing, over a C4S , as some don't drive any 911 model over 50% of its performance  potential anyway. I know a neighbor who has owned two C2S cabs who has never redlined  the motors ( and doesn't believe in agressive driving ) and bought it just to cruise around Silicon Valley as a weekday commute car because he can afford it and there are probably quite a number of owners of expensive sporty cars like him who would be bored silly reading a car nut board for more than 5 minutes.

    OTOH, you  don't get him talking about trading in rare  American and Swiss vintage pocket watches, unless you have hours of idle time.

    i wish the wing disappeared, but it gives me a reason to pretend I'm mature and not buy a turboSmileySmiley The 991s cab is so good, I just have no energy for my usual silly new car behaviourSmiley Porsche is actually saving me moneySmiley

    The Turbo Wing is not as big issue here, as the rumor that 991 Turbo will not be available with 7 spd manual transmission.

    My information hasn't always been accurate, so we really need to wait and see. The tri-turbo was an interesting approach, so I actually hope you are wrong. It would be an interesting feature, especially if it really annihilates any turbo lag.

    I always spot Panamera and 911 drivers in the US driving with their wings up, even at very low speeds. Actually almost every Panamera and 911 I see in the US, seems to have the wing up. At least in Florida. Smiley I get it...they raise the wing because at those limited speeds there, they probably never get the chance to use it Smiley but to be honest, it looks kind of...stupid. The wing has a certain purpose and this purpose only works at higher speeds. It looks ridiculous in my opinion but on the other hand, maybe I shouldn't judge. Driving a Porsche, I get it that people want the car to look as sporty as possible. I am more of a friend of hidden wing design, I love it when this thing shows up at certain speeds and when it goes down when I slow down. This is actually the best part. Smiley

    Agreed the principle is attractive with 500+PS and low lag but how could they package 3 turbos on the flat 6 layout, the 959 was an attempt at a non parallel turbo configuration but not really very successful - They will do what Porsche marketing always do and give a small increase in hp on the existing (or near as damn it) 9A1 turbo platform which has shown itself (courtesy of the tuners) to be robust enough for high 500s hp.......
