    Re: Michelin Pilot Super Sport

    Futch:

I will face the same dilemma when the time comes to replace my Bridgestone on the Turbo S and I think I will fit Supersports even though they won't be N rated.

Again, not Porsche approved, but Michelin approved. Good enough for me.

Again the question has to be asked - why have Porsche still not N-rated Supersports for 911's and when, if ever, will they do so..? Smiley

Porsche is slightly different regarding technical requirements and specs but people may not know this and think that they are just like any other manufacturer. Smiley

I think I have mentioned it somewhere before but the 997 was one of the development vehicles for the Super Sport tire. They even made the demo runs at press and retail events on a 997 throughout the entire event. Of course the N rating on a Porsche is far from irrelevant but that doesn´t mean that cars must behave much worse without it. From my understanding, I assume that the construction of the tire as well as the compound are already adapted to cars with a comparatively high load on these tires as is the case on a 911´s rear axle. Anyhow I can only see three reasons why Porsche does not rate the Super Sport on the 997:

    a. the tire is inappropriate

    b. the rating is in the procedure to be released

    c. there is a delay due to technical or organizational reasons.

On a sidenote, the current pdf listing available tire options does not list the Super Sport for the 991 as well, only the Goodyear and Pirelli.

    Re: Michelin Pilot Super Sport

As far as I heard, the Super Sport will be the OEM tire on the 991 GT3. Maybe this is the reason it hasn't appeared yet on the Carrera? Just a guess.

Also keep in mind that the tire list from Porsche is not really the latest one. The Super Sport is already available in a N-rated version for the Panamera and it doesn't show up in the latest tire approval list. Smiley

A cynic might add a fourth reason:  to keep the N rating for the PSS uniquely on the 991 to enhance sales, at least for a year or two.     As Futch noted PAG does not feel a need to keep re-establishing N ratings for new tires on quite old Porsche models; perhaps we will see if their new approach to N ratings is to only do so for cars currently in production, essentially declaring any models immediately prior to the current ones to be "old".

If that is true , It would  be a sign that shows they are  bringing the ' base' GT3 down a level, making it less hard core ( track oriented ) and more for street/ every day driving .

From Porsche´s point of view, It does make sense to position the GT3 a bit further from the RS version and the Super Sport would be the perfect tire for that. On the other hand, Porsche even offered the Cup tire for the 997.2 model so that would make it a true marketing decision.

Have any Panamera been delivered with the Michelin Super Sport straight from the factory?

Well...I hope to be the first one. Smiley

As far as I know...no...only press cars. Smiley
