Re: Scuderia Hanseat , october 2011 session

    Gnil:

Ask P-J , what he thinks. He has been driving the Ring for a few years now, and last year he did the course for the first time. As you are also pretty often there , his experience should be closer to yours.

Hi 'Ring friends Smiley I certainly can recommend the SH course and I enjoyed it a lot. IMHO it's the course with the most comprehensive feedback (almost on every corner) helping to finetune your lines and driving techniques. As the Nordschleife is 4x - 5x longer than a modern GP-circuit it also makes a lot of sense to divide it into sections. However for my taste the sections (13 ?) are a bit too many (or a bit too short) - only IMHO. Maybe it's different if you're a Newbie but when you have a couple of hundred full laps under your belt it's difficult to get into the flow of the Nordschleife with some of the sections. Sometimes I was thinking about the right gear choice which never happens on a full lap as the automatic program in my brain is doing the choice for me Smiley - that program obviously suffers some hick ups if you accelerate from a stand still somewhere in the middle of the track Smiley

Though the sections' cut off points are chosen with thought IMHO Smiley - with one exception: Pflanzgarten II (one of the most demanding and most satisfying sections if you get it right at speed Smiley) is torn apart Smiley

Some "dissidents" have been organising a similar course for the first time last year:

    http://www.scuderia-s7.com/en/portrait.html

Main difference: smaller number of sections (6), max. 7 cars per group, full laps (in small groups) following the instructor cars.

Unfortunately I didn't have the time to participate in this year's course (took place last week) but it's definitely on my to-do-list for next year.

As for the PSDS Performance Training: bluelines has summed it up perfectly Smiley I participated two years ago and really loved it: only 67 participants back then, small groups (5 to 6 cars per group only) and lot of occasions to "chase the instructors Smiley" for some full laps. No section training - it's more in the format of the Sport Auto Perfektionstraining. If I recall correctly that was the only occasion ever for me to drive 10 consecutive fast laps - I was sweating like hell Smiley

Yes, 800 laps is what you told me when we met last August at the Green Hell

Many congrats on passing 1000 laps  Only another 34000 to go to catch Sabine Schmitz

hahaha, at my low rate of laps p.a. that will take 100 years Smiley Thanks for the good wishes, Easy - but I'm just a humble amateur, Ring Meister are the Stucks and Alzens of this world. Smiley

For me it's just a beloved hobby - some relax at weekends on a golf course, I relax while doing some laps Smiley

Definitely not, Porker ! You know the saying: "there are no dumb questions, there are only dumb answers" ? The NoS fits very well into the concept of life long learning - therefore any discussion on "lines" is always welcomed Smiley Even more so for me as I'm not dogmatic about it. I'm always open to try something new and very much appreciate Walter Röhrl's pragmatic approach on lines: "who's fast is right" Smiley

...well,you will not be alone in august...by the way, will they let you drive with the top down ?

Re: Scuderia Hanseat , october 2011 session

Nah, pretty sure they don't allow the top down. It was never allowed at any Porsche course I attended before. Although, at Scuderia they did not seem to bother about this since I did see several cars with the top down.

But I'm keen to follow what you guys get up to ...

Please post lots of pics here when you get back

Also, just posting a link to an earlier thread I started on this subject - just to marry the two threads together ...

Mmm  - pity no Carrera GTS (yet..?) - that would have been nice.  The standard writing is nice, but I would have liked it bigger like the Carrera RS 2.7 (considering my boyhood dream - see my Top Trumps 1976 post!).

Re: Scuderia Hanseat , october 2011 session

I will be bringing my underpowered hairdressers' car too. I know Cram is already shivering of fear from my high-speed overtaking maneuvers in the Dunlop corner

    I have invested in a:

    • IPD competition plenum
    • Larger OEM throttle body
    • Evoms V-Flow air filter

    To make it even quicker.

Note, the cat is not part of the performance upgrade
