I like this idea. 911 engines in the recent models haven't been pretty, so this seems functional and cool...

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

seems that the 997 was a 35 years old person...

the 991 IMO seems a 25 years old person...

car got younger... i liked it...

compare the side by side photos in this page of the new and the old together and youll get the idea.

The more I see this car, the more I think it will make the 997 look dated.

    J.Seven

of course it will do. Question would be - if you would have seen the 991 before and the 997 would come after - maybe you would say the same. In other words - isnt it just the fact that you are to much used to the 997, or are really new elements integrated?

       Lars

The fact 991 is lower and wider is a first step to become more sportier design wise. The new rear is also more modern with one piece bumper killing conections between panels giving a cleaner line.  The new roof shape and windscreen will give this car a stance no 997 ever had, so no, I don´t think a 997 would ever be an evolution next to 991. As I said before subtle changes on the 997.2 made the .1 look dated, so the .2 will look dated next to the new brother, but that doesn´t mean it´s a bad thing, look at a 993 4S or 993 TT nowadays Smiley maybe one of the most beautiful Porsche ever made and a timeless design was achieved with those, but next to a 997.2 they obviously look dated Smiley  way more sharming, but dated. Anyway 997 will always look nice from now till 10 or 20 years Smiley Smiley

"Functional and cool" are probably exactly right.

I suspect that the main function of this engine shroud is to enable them to make a box for the cars fitted with a folding roof, so that it is completely separated from the heat and dirt of the engine bay.

I was just looking at some spyshots of the Boxster, and it obviously has a soft top. Comparing them to the 991 Cabriolet spy shots, no doubt in my mind that it's a hard top. I don't mind, I just prefer the look of a canvas roof. Maybe it will be a canvas wrapper hard top.

    Noticed that too.

I've even been comparing the differences in the 997.2 between the GT2 & 3 in that same spot.

To me, it looks more as if there's still a fake bumper covering the real bumper underneath. The same goes for the front.

The cocoon theory? we were dead wrong about that one when the final spy pics of the panamera were coming out so I don't think we could count on that for the 991. often with porsche camo on final stages what you see is what you get.

...is it possible that the 991 light design could be similar to the 918 RSR?

Excellent. Well detected The lights are clearly derived from the 918.

As a founder of  'cocoon theory' , which failed completely ,  I can say that this time again I don't think that this rear bumper is real .  Look at this pic. carefully  ( close and around right light ) .

I assure you the bumper is real. They are recessed, like on the 918...

I think the bumper is real but I hope the rear lights are not final and they final one will be flushed with the bumper

My question is how many of you will trade your present Porsche for the 991? We know most of the particulars and the styling. How many will buy this car?

They won't be flush. To be honest, I thought it was well known from the start the tail lights would be recessed. I guess I was the only one. Notice all the 918 influence: The Carrera GT/918 Spyder style rear bumper and mini-ducktail, the recessed, and thin tail lights, the larger, recessed, more sloped headlights, sharper angles on the front bumper, more streamlined design etc.

New shots: The colour, in addition to mimicking a seventies dishwasher, proves this latest testing is from publicity. Oh, and new wheels.
