Dan Neils reviews are totally superficial. His adoration for the brand is well known. His review of the 458 Italia, tested in the snow, was a journalistic benchmark for marque pimpery. So I cant find him credible on the FF.
If the Ferrari FF has any of the 458s ridiculous design and manufacturing flaws, I advise anyone to reconsider paying silly money for shoddy design and craftsmanship.
What are the flaws? Some very simple ones that no manufacturer in his right mind should do these days.
Wiper fuse blown? The 458 has its many fuseboxes inside the dashboard and behind the rear bulkhead upholstry. The wiper fuse is behind the dashboard on the right side. You have to take the dashboard apart just to replace a simple wiper fuse! That is a major, repeat major project!
Electronic parking brake locked up? You have to insert a special tool into a hole inside the right side rear fender well and reef on it with max strength. The tool is flimsy. Good luck!
Flat tire? The flat fix kit destroys the TPMS sensor on any wheel its used on. Its cheaper to have the car flat bed towed than to replace the TPMS sensor.
Paint. Ferrari is more than happy to deliver a red car with complete orange peel. But they are not happy to wet sand it to give the finish its proper look. If you remove the front trunk plastic liner on a F458 you will also see .... a lack of paint! Amazing for such price that they do not finish off the trunk area that you cant see with the paint color of the car.
Welds. Remove the rear wheels and the liners. You will see weld seams that show zero attention to quality. They look like a blind farmer did them.
Sorry, the romance gets lost between the vision and the reality.

Jim,
If it was logically laid out and extremely well built it wouldn't be Italian..... it would be German
On top of that the factory have to leave a degree of layout wackiness in their designs or what else would the DIY mainenance guys on Fchat have to bitch and moan about for the next 20 years as they buy themselves 10 year old 458s??? They'll get a lot of mileage out of wiper fuse replacement threads

Those guys on Fchat should start stockpiling F458 dash fasteners now!
