That is pathetic and sad. Ready for democracy much, not everyone i suppose. I know people were angry and this whole revolution thing was inspiring, but stealing from your own.. that serves no purpose and shows pure criminal activity out of lack of respect. The entire dealership got stripped of materials and parts...
indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine.. I happen to like both :)

sad but only metal! Much more important is that things are going the right direction again.
Hopefully the Egyption folk is not going the same way other islamic countries went before and giving the power to the islam instead into the people democraty!
This is what happens when poor people let go of their accumulated rage. Of course some parts were stolen (look at the missing wheels) and there is no excuse for what these people did but it was to be expected that something like this happens.
You know what the biggest challenge after a "revolution" for democratic changes is? To explain to it's children that democracy doesn't mean that everyone is now going to drive a Mercedes, own a big house and tons of cash. Difficult times ahead for Egypt...

Four reasons IMO:
1. The "psychology of the mob". Everything has to be destroyed no matter what.
2. The rage of poor people (Egyptian poor is nothing like Euro-poor) against the symbols of affluence of the very few.
3. Looting. Although, I don't think they can dispose easily of a set of wheels from a recent BMW in their neighbourhood.
4. There is also possibly, the symbolism of the destruction of western culture products in the land where Islam is rising (or many there, hope so).
I'm afraid the population is too huge and rampant to be influenced and turned around by moderate and modern politicians.

"Form follows function"
i had seen this on tv and then thought of searching pics to post here. however, i couldn't be bothered really. not because of the unsettling images, just because this is a 'natural' side effect to demonstrations when rage is unfolded.
same happens in france or germany.
however, i truly believe that above destruction was done by the paid-for looters and police in civilian clothes.
it is an established fact the the revolutionist were totally peaceful. the mob was mobilized by the ministry of interior, whose head is currently being tried in front of a military court.
there are some very unsettling vids on youtube of people bein 'executed' by the police.
Well, over here, all we hear is that thing went ahead without too much fuss...
In between lines, you hear that more than hundred people were killed, items were stolen from the national museum, and now this...
Wit respect to the reason of this destruction; I always wonder about the effect of a mob of people... people seem to realize they can get away with everything, and then get berserk... really frightening, civilization is only a thin layer...
trust me it's not. it's the police trying to drive a stick between the egyptian people in order to make them call for mubarak to stay as guarantor of stability.

This is NOT democracy, this is pure socialism, hatred towards the rich is a part of socialism.
I am afraid if this continues Egypt will either goes into anarchy or regress into socialism.
Let's put this back in proportion.
A trashed car showroom would be a small price to pay for the momentous changes taking place in Egypt. Many people lost their lives there, so trying to make out that Egypt is going to hell in a socialist hand-basket because a few cars also got their wheels stolen does suggest a distorted view of the events.
Also to put things back in proportion, google the name Rodney King in case it doesn't mean anything to you.

I agree on that. We have a different view on the subject as we haven´t experienced the last few weeks in Egypt and presumably everyone in this region couldn´t care less about some trashed cars. As Sharif said, there is more to this story than a few disturbing pictures [for car enthusiasts] and I trust his information.
On a sidenote though, I find it interesting that wheels on all vehicles have been removed. What has happened to the cars in the showroom?
i guess someone in Alex will be opening a wheel-shop soon
i would assume the cars in the showroom were stashed away in safety. however, they could not remove the workshop cars as they did not care for the customer cars.
the ministry of finance has promised 5 bln egyptian pounds in compensation for damaged property during the protests.

To put things into perspective, some of my family members went through hell, aka the Cultural Revolution of China in the 60s. It started small too, not a car dealership but book shops.
What happened next? They went after the rich and literate, killing them on sight. Raiding rich family homes and raping and killing the rich, killing and/or torturing educated people.
Another example, the revolution in Russia, the royalties and rich got targeted.
Socialism/communism took hold after both.
Who is to say the mob won't go after the rich in Egypt, for all we know they could be knocking on intouch's door tomorrow.
Nothing good happens when the poor targets the rich.

What's Rodney King got to do with anything?
A lot. Remember what happened after the Rodney King video got public?
I guess fritz just wanted to make a point.

Don't worry, the army is in control, this ain't going to happen in Egypt. Most of the higher army aristocracy is very rich too.

the current uprising was sped up by what happened in tunisia.
i have been foreseeing a poor vs rich uprising for egypt. it seemed inevitable.
let's hope that the current situation will be managed in a way that will spare us an economical uprising.
egypt is currently on the very brink of becoming the true leader of the arab world again or being succumbed into decades of wrath.
where i live on the red sea, there were hardly any demonstrations. maybe on the friday of anger there were 200 people peacefully on the streets for a couple of hours. this boils down to the people here having jobs and understanding how much egypt need tourism and influx of curency to support our economy.
furthermore, the exchange of opinions with foreigners surely has helped the people get a broader view of politics and the world.
