    For the last several months, I've been wondering how ugly a higher, flatter front end would look on a Porsche,

     Easy, picture a 911 with a 7 series nose

    Just back from one of my regular stints in Australia..... now there is a country that knows how to handle pedestrians (and any other species that are silly enough to impact their cars).   To quote the famous Croc. Dundee,  "that's not a pedestrian catcher; now THIS is a pedestrian catcher!"   Smiley

    Machine Spaces - us urban planners have a deep hate for them. Arguably they are the most disgraceful visual spaces of the 21st century.

    It depends on the content filling those spaces... Any Sunday Concours d'Élegance denies that statement. Besides, beauty is the eye of the beholder, isn't it?

     

    I wouldn't consider a grassy patch a machine space. I think RC is the only person who loved to look and feel of large placeless parking lots in front of Walmart.

    I should explain for those who have never visited Australia - these are usually referred to as 'bull bars" or "roo bars" and originated due to the very high probability of hitting animals, often kangaroos, at night on Australia's highways.  This one is admittedly a bit more extreme than many, but not by much.   They are usually installed on 4x4s, but the Aussie-made Holdens and Fords are also regularly outfitted with these bars, at least in the more rural areas.  I expect our friend Way doesn't see many of these in the Melbourne city centre.....

    Sorry, back on topic now with 911s (for which I have never seen a bull bar installed).

    Didn't realize this thread exist. Haha no, you don't get many of these in Melbourne city centre, although when I drive out to the country sides you do see them around. I would want to crash into one of them!

     They don't roam the cities because we tame them and ride them as an alternative to public transport. The saddles are very uncomfortable but I store my spare change and iphone in the pouch.
