    Cayenne Facelift with new headlight technology ?

    When I returned from a short ski vacation in Austria, I "met" a black Cayenne (latest model) which seems to share the headlight technology with the new 918 RSR.

    I've seen (and mentioned) this design a couple of months ago after a similar "meet" but I never was sure Porsche is actually going to use this new design.

    The headlight housing design itself was unchanged, just the "interior" of the headlight was different.

    In case of the Cayenne, isn't that just the daytime running light which looks like the 918 RSR? I think the Panamera has those as well.

    Due i have a Cayenne S on order,May production,can someone tell me when there is the MY change for the Cayenne?

    i think if there will be the mod will be at the new MY introduction...

     

    Not that the thing make me worried to much,but if is a thing of "days" i can wait...

    It was much brighter than regular daylight running lights, it definitely looked different but maybe the lights were not OK (car had LB license plates though Smiley).

    It could very well be LED headlights that are tested under realtime conditions. The automotive supplier Hella has had a Volkswagen Golf with LED headlight prototypes running in daily traffic years ago.

    Mercedes Benz have already incorporated LED light technology for their main headlights on the new CLS if I'm not mistaken.

    Audi too...I doubt that Porsche is far away. The Cayenne and the Panamera are just perfect for a new headlight technology.

    My comment was rather aiming at the fact that those headlight systems are tested under realtime conditions and comparatively undisguised in comparison to the prototype vehicle itself.

    One issue with LED headlights has been the unability of deicing of the headlight housing since LEDs generate less heat towards that area than common light bulbs. Audi, for example, has solved this issue by using electrical fans inside the enclosure.

    I dunno, but i've noticed a couple of Audi models where i thought, wow those LED lights are already broken. I have spotted 4 Audi's in which one side was off completely.. Also, i think when you indicate a turn the whole LED unit blinks... Looks very strange, almost like an error in wiring Smiley

    indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

    Nope, this is my 11 CTT with the DRLs turned on, the bumper LEDs are off and the headlight LEDs are on.

     Must be a MY11 change because my best friend has a MY10 Cayenne Diesel and the DRL leds are on the stripe above the intake, ill try to take some pics of it tomorrow so you can see what I mean.

    I know what you mean, my car has them too but they light up only with the main xenon low beams and when the DRLs are programmed to be off in the car's settings.

     The LEDs are arranged differently on the 2011 Turbo and non-Turbo models.

    On the Cayenne, Cayenne Diesel, Cayenne S and Cayenne S Hybrid, they're integrated into the lighting units in the air intake. The unit is connected to the top of the intake below the headlights, with the DRLs horizontally arranged on top and the indicators below.


    The Cayenne Turbo houses its DRLs in the main headlight as a set of four LEDs. The second light unit in the intake is designed to be seemingly free-floating in the intake. It turns on at night to act as a position light on the Turbo and also houses the indicators in the center.

    The Panamera Turbo's headlights also have the same DRL design as the Cayenne Turbo.

    Hope that clears things up.

     I know the issue was already explained by rulesdontapply but here's what i meant, also there are two light strips on the non turbo models, the DRL as seen on this pic and the thin one you mentioned turn on in yours when the main xenon is on AAHTT. When you turn on the xenon on the non turbo models the leds shut down and the thin strip lights up too.

    Sorry for the poor quality pic, I took it with my phone and it was already dark, but I just wanted to show you guys what I was talking about.

    Wow, I didn't think that my post would cause that much confusion.

    The lights I saw were definitely brighter than the four LEDs of the daylight running light but maybe the headlight was mis-aligned, I can't be sure. It was very bright.

     To clear things up: the thin strip that lights up when the main headlight unit is on [in between the indicators and the DRLs] is simply the position light. Look at the 997; DRLs operate during the day, then flicking on the main headlights at night also turn on the position light strip in between the indicators and the DRLs.

    The thin strip is only available on the non-Turbo Cayennes. The Cayenne Turbo's entire light unit in the intake illuminates at night, so you'd see an elongated rectangle at night or whenever the light is on.
