JR-550:
This year the Panamera diesel will be introduced. The rumor is this will only be a 2 wheel drive version. Does somebody know why this is?
Weight, cost, I could find a thousand reasons. It doesn't make sense to offer AWD on the Panamera Diesel, at least this is my opinion (and apparently also Porsche's opinion).
Get the 4S, you can't go wrong. Unless of course fuel prices are important to you...on a 100+ k car.

Technically, it is possible and wouldn't impose much of a problem but apparently there is no market (yet) for that.
Like Lars said...probably only a marketing decision but very likely based on certain technical/cost factors too.
Would I buy a Panamera Diesel AWD with 300 HP or less ? Probably not.
Would I buy a Panamera Diesel AWD with 400 HP or more ? More likely.
Maybe Porsche just needs to introduce the "right" Diesel engine to the Panamera.

Would I buy a Panamera Diesel with 300 HP and 300 ft/lbs of torque? Probably not.
Would I buy a Panamera Diesel with 300 HP and more than 450 ft/lbs of torque? Probably Yes.
Would I buy a Panamera Diesel with the Q7-V12 (500 HP and 737 ft/lbs of torque)? If I had the money - Most Certainly!

According to some rumors, Porsche started to develop their own high performance Diesel engine some while ago. Since Porsche is practically owned by VW now, it would only make sense if Porsche uses VW group technology to improve or even completely replace this project. Time will tell but I truly think that we haven't seen the most powerful Diesel in a Porsche yet...by far not.
