    Composition of Evora body materials

     I'm finding myself a potential fan of the Lotus Evora. That said, I happened upon a Lotus Exige at the local dealer, and noticed that the front is all fiberglass, i.e. one mishap in the parking lot and the whole clamshell need be replaced! That's when I got to thinking about the Evora, and how its construction may influence whether or not I can "afford" to buy one.

    So, does the Evora have impact bumpers and aluminum panels, or is the whole body made of fiberglass like the Elise and Exige? Smiley

    It has a different bumper which can be replaced i.e. you don't have to replace the whole front clam. It's of the same material as the Elise/Exige.

     Well I guess that's good -sort of. A separate bumper makes sense, but how is the Evora going to pass U.S. 5 mph impact regulations with a fiberglass bumper??

    Fibreglass cracks easily upon impact, that's why I always avoid parallel parking.

    It was designed with the US market in mind in terms of one of their larger markets so I guess they have got it sussed, unless they have an exemption. I think in the US the Elise/Exige has little bumpers that stick out slightly further than the number plates to absorb the impact?

    That is correct. The Fed Elise/Exige have rubber bumpers since MY2007 (some early 2007 models have none). Here is a pic:

    It still looks kind of clean.

    i have all those eelise and exige s1 .s2 body mould! so not worry about fiberglass damage..
