Re: 987S Track Preparation
* Helmet (Check what kind of safety approval is necessary in the class you want to compete in)
* Gloves (firm grip is essential)
* Pilot/racing suit. Again check regulations to see if you need a certified Nomex (fire-safe) suit or a cotton suit is enough.
A top-notch raceing suit will run you anything from 400 - 1500$.
A cotton ditto (that looks almost the same) is only around 100$.
* Shoes. Get a nice pair of semi-pro racing shoes with AMPLE circulation. It gets VERY hot.
* Roll cage, 3-6point harness, seats etc; Check regulations in your class. Most amateur/leisure racing does not call for these things.
If you wanna get really serious about racing I suggest you team up with others to but a real Boxster racecar..altho that is a bit pricy.
* See my thread on how to adjust front camber on-the-spot. It takes a few minutes and gives you better handling istantly. You can change it back in 10 minutes when you go back on the regular roads.
Check with the racetrack where u plan on taking the license, and ask them what is the better way of doing this. You might wanna take the license in a dedicated racecar and later drive your own car. Or u might be able to take the license in your own car.
My instructor told me this: If u wanna get serious about driving/racing get a real, dedicated car for that purpose. That way u wont be crying your eyeballs out if you total the Boxster on the track - plus the fact that driving a real racecar (Locost or a converted saloon or even Boxster) is even more fun and gives you even greater thrills.
So my advice is: Think about how much fun you wanna have and what risk you are willing to run with your everyday car
