First impressions of my C4S- 20mm + pics

So..... It now stands in my garage!! Woaw

Pick up: long chat with dealer + he gave me 4 mats and 3 key rings ( black , green, red)

    Specs:
997 C4s, Seal, Black interior, with sports chassis ( -20mm + LSD) : The sports chassis is firm but ok to drive on normal roads. It is a little bit softer then sports with PASM, but a very different feel...much more connected to the suspension and the road. Only when hitting big bumps is it a little bit hard . I do have 18' rims at the moment because of winter settings, it will be a little bit harder with the 19'. I love this setting! Can't say anything about the LSD yet, roads where very busy + it was -3 degrees and going into the night. I have not pushed the car yet.

Heated seats.. works very well, nearly too well.
Cruise control ( haven't used it yet)
    TPMS...seems very precise. Great.
Top of front window tinted ( helps when sun goes down + looks nice)
Pack Sport ... Great, I had it always on
Sat Nav + phone ( elaborated gadget)
Bose surround ( have hardly listen to it, but sounds ok, not fantastic, not too bad either)
Back logo painted in car color ( I was going to have the delete, then when for this. I like better as it makes the logo more discrete...see pics )
Auto dimming mirrors ( a must)
Sports seats ( I like them much better then the standard and I do not miss the all electric , specially for the price they ask)
Steal entry door ( a waist of money.... It looks good but no need at all to have it)
Side skirts painted ( I love it... see the pics)
Short shift ( really short and a little bit harder then the standards, but I like this mechanical feel. Good....but maybe no must have)
PSE .... Must have! I can't drive without it on!!!!!! and have already spoken to the mechanics to have the switch installed ( next to the sports button) so I can have it on all the time, or back to normal.
Thick steering wheel... I regret that one ! The leather feels much better then the others, softer but then one can feel the stitches very well and the two 'bumps' are too thick to my liking.
5 mm spacers ( front and back) A must have on the wide body
( at the moment I have the 18' winter rims with tyres 295 so it still looks too much in the inside, even with the spacers.
Porsche logo in head rest: looks great! I love it !

I can't say much about the ride feel as I didn't drive hard.. lots of trafic, new car, ice on the road.
    But great traction for sure!!!!!
It does feel different then the C2S, less nervous, less sporty, more like a sporty GT, very confidence inspiring, front heaver... I will have to see that later.
    Here are a few pics.....

I was just thinking you SHOULD be enjoying your pse sound, even more than us, with those temperatures, you must have cold engine sound!!!!!!!!!!

Nice badge colour in the rear,

The only question why did u decided those 18" rims, is it beacause of the climate conditions overthere????....I thought the Carrera 4S camed with the standard 19" of the Carrera S

Apart from that, really nice!!!, congrats and enjoy that COLD sound !!!!

Actually these are the 18" because the car has the winter tyres yet, otherwise it will be the "standard" 19".

Re: First impressions of my C4S- 20mm + pics

Great, PSe is something you can only appreciate when you hear it yourself, then you won't wnat to turn it off

    TMPS very usefull indeed

Glad you liked the -20mm at least your first impresion, but it will get sportier with the 19" wheels it was designed for

These are just my winter rims with my winter tyres! I do have the Carrera S 19' with summer tyres but will only put them on in spring.
Smaller rims are better in snow and the smaller the tyre the better too ( to a certain extent)
and , of top of that adding extra $ for 19' just didn't make any sence. Like that, in spring, i'll be soooo happy when i' ll put on the 19' rims

Re: First impressions of my C4S- 20mm + pics

A beauty! Love Seal Grey and the 4 bodies!

Re: First impressions of my C4S- 20mm + pics

    Gnil,

Thanks for the great pictures of your AWESOME Baby! I especially love the last one- really shows off the incredible hip(s)! Excellent touches with the logo and side skirts! The -20mm really looks tough!

    More, more- please!

Re: First impressions of my C4S- 20mm + pics

Congratulations Gnil, the wait is finally over

The painted side skirts and logo look really nice, and I'm glad to see someone using their C4S they way it was intended - as an all-year vehicle

I'm also interested in hearing how the short shift works out in winter, since Porsche says that it might be a bit harder to operate when it is cold

Very nice pictures, please feel free to overload this board with more...

Indeed, a snowtire should ideally be as narrow and high-profile as possible to cut through the snow in order to get down to the hard surface underneath to find traction. (A wide tire will just "float" on top of the snow and achieve nothing) See the picture a World Rally Car below.
(I'm sure ex-rally driver RC can provide more info if you want )

On a normal roadcar though you need a compromise because you don't always drive on snow and narrow/high-profile tire doesn't work too well on asphalt where it will be unstable and not provide much lateral grip. And on a widebody C4S it would look just stupid

Re: First impressions of my C4S- 20mm + pics

A close-up of a WRC snowtire. Amazingly these tires provide about the same grip and traction as a gravel tire (mainly because of the studs), so the WRC cars are about as fast on snow as on gravel.

Watching a WRC car do 200 kph on a narrow snow-covered road lined with large pine-trees is quite a sight!
