When is the 2004 997 porsche coming out? Is it in November or the summer of 2004 ?

First thing: we already have Model Year 2004.
Second thing: what makes you believe the 997 comes next year?
Third thing: if somebody knew exactly what Porsche does in the near future, it would be worth a lot of money.
Fourth thing: new model series always come in summer, first cars are produced around June/July (mostly press and dealer showcars) and then end of August the real production starts.

    Re: 997 porsche

I haven't seen the 2004 model anywhere except in the spy photos. If it is already out so it look like the spy photos ?

You can see the MY 2004 model at any Porsche dealer worldwide. Oh boy...
The 997 of course isn't out yet and the cars on the spy pics are either camoflaged or computer enhanced.
Again: what makes you believe that the 997 comes out next year?

    Re: 997 porsche

RC is right 2004 models are still 996 cars and Porsche dealers should be getting them soon.

    Re: 997 porsche

IT SAIDS SO IN THE RENNTEAM SITE. THE SAME ONE THAT SHOWS THE SPY PICS.

    Re: 997 porsche

Although RC has some great insight and possibly some good intel from Porsche, he is not privy to all of Porsche's plans. Most of what you see on sights like this, with regards to "future" products, is purely SPECULATION. We all want to know what the next rabbit out of the hat will look like and how it will perform, but only Porsche knows what Porsche will do in the next couple of years.

    Re: 997 porsche

So the question is, "when does the 997 come out?" I don't think anyone knows. These sorts of things aren't for us to know, but keep reading the media and you will get somewhere! However I think(might be a real stupid idea?) we should try and get as many 997 spy pics posted here on this site to keep everyone guessing??????? This car is going to be awesome! But I cannot help but wonder if it will look like the 993 w/ Carrera GT styling cues? Or will it look like the 993 w/ some bits carried over(as far as chrome surround on the headlights) from the 996? Oh the anticipation!!!!!

    Maybe Im just talking gibberish??????????

    Launch of 997

I am 99% sure that the 997 will be introduced next year. I know a supplier to Porsche which is actually assuming full 997 production numbers in 2005. This suggests that production will be launched in 2004, output numbers increasing in 2004, and reaching 100% levels in early 2005

    Still 1% missing.

    There are two possibilities:
    1. Porsche introduces 987 (Boxster) and 997 (911) next summer at the same time, something which would probably reduce preparation cost as both models are somehow related one to each other
    2. Porsche introduces the 987 (Boxster) next summer and the 997 (911) in summer 2005 to be able to cope to people's (customer) response to the "new" design and to be able to adapt the 997 to it.

I might be able to say more around beginning of next year but right now all rumors indicate a possible pre-launch of the 997 in summer 2004 (which would be bad for current 911 owners because the 997 is rumored to have taken the 911 to a completely new design/quality/performance level).

    Re: Launch of 997

How so in design? Please elaborate if you can? Im very interested.

I'm sure the design elements have direct affect with the 997 performance such as coefficient of drag, reduction of front lift axile, chasis stiffness and so forth.

    Re: Launch of 997

So function follows form instead of form follows function? A nice change, should be even more fun to drive!

    Re: Launch of 997

My dealer told me that he is going to Stuttgart for the introduction of the 997 in October 2004.

    Re: Launch of 997

Pretty interesting all the gessing here at Rennteam.

Mr. Wiedeking gave an interview to the German magazine "Capital" a few month ago and a time table of future sales by Porsche AG. Looking at this forecast, the 997 is going to be on the road in Germany at the end of 2004 and will come to the USA as an early MY 2006 in the spring of 2005 (March/April 2005) - you guys remember the introduction of the 996 - in Germany in Nov./Dec. 1997 and here in the USA in April 1998 as an early MY 1999 - history repeats itself at Porsche - nothing new.
The 997 will first arrive as a Coupe, six month later as a Cab and then the rest of the models over the next years.

    Re: Launch of 997

I wouldn't be so sure of myself. Just face the facts, its great to speculate, but in reality none of us know when the 997 will be here EXACTLY(It may be here next year? year after? who knows could be here tommorow?). Have fun guessing.....

    Re: Launch of 997

The observations that you have are correct, except times have changed. Today Porsche is having a harder time making profits and may bring the car earlier to rev the profits up. They also brought the cabriolet out the same day as the coupe last time and we should expect the same this time.

    Re: Launch of 997

I guess I just dont want to wait. Originally I just wanted to see all the pics of the 997 prototypes, thought maybe I would start talking about here in the forums? Bad idea. I am becoming very impaitent! Europeans get everything first, Americans get everything last and watered down!(nothing wrong with Europeans getting the cars first, I just wish all markets could get the cars at the same time) The goverment here needs to stop messing around with regulations and just give us euro spec cars!!!!!!!!!

    Carrera GT styling influence???

A big question has popped up in my head. The Carrera GT seems to represent a new styling direction for Porsche, will its styling be carried on in the 997 and 987? I can't quite understand why Porsche would just give the Carrera GT its own special styling(yes I know the Carrera GT is a very special car) without passing on some or a lot of its design cues to newer Porsche models? Please share your thoughts on this one guys.

    Re: Carrera GT styling influence???

i'm expecting the CGT to be to the future couple decades of 911 as the 959 has been for the last nearly two since it's introduction.

    Re: Carrera GT styling influence???

Look closely at the spy photos of the 987/997 and you can already see a lot of CGT influence. Look especially at the new Boxster headlights and the enlarged side intakes.

Probably the most significant styling shift with the CGT involves the relationship between the front fender and the front hood. The cutline sweeps forward from the windshield and then INWARD across the front of the hood, which tends to emphasis the shape of the hood rather than the shape of the fender.

Now look at the 911 series as it has existed since Butzi himself designed it. The cutline sweeps down from the windshield and PAST the front of the hood into the bumper, putting the emphasis on the fender. The emphasis was even greater in the 993 and early 996 because after the cutline went past the front of the hood it turned OUTWARD, drawing the eye back into the fender itself.

Anyway, I didn't mean to ramble on and on about this. But it's a major styling shift that apparently will carry over into the 987/997.

    Re: Carrera GT styling influence???

It's really hard to see anything with all of the camo, but I think I have an idea of what you are saying? The Carrera GT maintains traditional Porsche design, so theres nothing really new in overall design, but the "CGT" does use a lot of new technologies that have not been seen on any other Porsche; LED tailights, and other things i cant put my finger on right now. But what I find most striking about the CGT are the black headlight surrounds, hopefully this will replace the cheap looking chrome surrounds on the current generation Porsches. It's a small detail but it gives the car a far more menacing look if you think about it, think of it this way, pretty silver mascara or two black eyes? Sounds silly I know, but hopefully you get the point Im trying to make in visualization?
