    My close call tonight...

    Hey guys,

    Saw something quite disturbing on the way back to home in my Carrera. I was driving casually on the highway on my way back from a friend's house. I was on the fast lane and while watching the road about 80m(240ft) infront of me. I saw a huge cloud of dust... the next moment I know a car from the oncoming lane is on it's side spinning past me, so I hit the brakes and swerve hard to the left! I narrowly missed the other cars, it seems about 4 other cars were involved in the accident 2 of them rolled past me. Not sure what exactly happened though, guess I will hear it on the news tomorrow. Looked very serious, I'm pretty sure one or two people must have died . For those of you who are in SA, was just under the "John Vorster" offramp on the highway.

    Just want to say, keep an eye out guys and always drive alert! also don't spare the expenses on you tires, they may save you when you least expect it!

    Glad you are ok Mike. Hope nobody is hurt in that accident though.

    Hope all's OK though 'cause I know stuff like that can really shake a person up.

    Odd... Whenever I'm driving somewhere with my dad he always says: Keep left... You never know when a car will come through from the other side and if one does, you'll have more time to react if you are in the further lane...

    yeah BC997, that's what dads are for and there's a good reason why they insist on certain things . I still take advice from my dad daily! a lot to still learn from him

    thanks again guys, didn't have a chance to drive past today but will definately tomorrow then I can get more or less an idea of the extent of damage caused.

    Tried to take a pic while driving past, but with no luck. Not a lot of debris left. They cleaned it up pretty quick. But there wasn't any dividers or guardrails

    Mike, I love your country and those out here reading this should visit South Africa, glad you are ok. You have lots of traffic in these areas so much like where I am from in South Florida. We have too many incidents as you discribe. It is a melting pot of drivers from around the country and the world, they do crazy things on the highway. We have many young South Americans driving and anything goes. Many of these drivers are very skilled but the old people here are not and that makes for serious confrontations.

    thanks dan we have lots of bad drivers here too, and I mean just plain bad and they don't know how to drive at all!

    Speaking of close calls, I've almost been hit offset head-on twice in one week! In both cases I was enjoying a quick after-work spin on backroads and encountered another oncoming driver over the yellow line on a blind curve with both our speeds at about 40-45 mph. In the first case, the vehicle occupied half my lane and was in the process of swerving back.
    In the second, the vehicle was out of control, completely in my lane, and swerving to miss hitting me.

    Yesterday I was told an old, dear family friend committed suicide due to depression. No one paid attention when he said he was feeling so awful that he felt like killing himself. Pity.

    I wonder if someone is trying to give me a hint about life, and/or my scheduled checkout time.
    If you're listening would you please be more specific.

    No worries. One day at a time...

    Speaking of which, I saw my first spanking new E60 M5 today and followed it for a while on its test-drive to listen to its exhaust. Nice. Muted. Boring. The CGT is still the exhaust harmony king. Ah, heaven is my soul attached to the CGT's rear bumper, Resting.I.P.
