    Analysis of Rivian's 2023 Results

    Finally got the analysis of Rivian's 2023 Results posted:

    no, they won't; their trucks are moving tombstones, well only moving a bit longer.  Only a complete sucker will pay 20-50,000$ for basic repairs and wait months for them, and soon no company, no support, no service, no used market.  It's a chuckle seeing the woke coastal twits in them in the Rockies.

    I’ll give Musk credit where credit is due for understanding many of the inherent issues with automotive production.  I’m not seeing a reason other than “build it and they will come” for the Georgia facility as this time and with a product slated for that facility in 2026, at the earliest.  Across the next year, several of the other automakers will roll out new competing products including Volkswagen Group with its new Scout division.  By the time the Scout begins product, Volkswagen Group will be generating significant synergies across its operating units in EVs.  
     

    Rivian is deadman walking just like Lucid, with interesting product too late for the market.

    The Georgia factory defies logic.  They are running at 25-30% capacity at the current one in Illinois.  

    Agree, they are 8-10 years to late.

    That said, beautiful, and somewhat sobering report once more. This company (likewise Lucid) seems to bring genuinely refreshing products. Being from Europe, I've only seen Rivians on US soil. And they stop you in your tracks with their fresh looks, something the current crop of horrible EV derivatives from Mercedes and BMW completely fails to do. It's a snooze fest in Germany at the moment. On the other hand, will the bet on EV prove to be the right one going forward, that's certainly not a given either IMO. Interesting times.

    It's a snooze fest in Germany at the moment.

    Only in Germany? Smiley Cars are getting less loud, less emotional and...electric. This is the future and I know that many don't believe it and there are doubts but it is just a matter of time. Sadly.

    There are still some interesting (new) emotional cars available but probably not what you are going to like: The new SL63 Smiley, the AMG GT, the Jaguar F-Type 575 and of course the various Lambo and Ferrari models. The current M3/M4 models don't sound that bad either I have to say but I prefer a nice sounding V8 anytime. 

    Porsche? Well, the new hybrid sounds OK but don't expect any spectacular sounds from the GT models with the new gens. Smiley It just isn't possible anymore. 

    It won't get better...we need to get used to it. Those who want old school emotions from cars should either get one of the last new ones available or stick to "oldies but goodies". 

    In the SUV department, I would definitely get a G63 or a Defender 90 V8. They still sound amazing for GPF equipped cars.

    Of course there are good sounding super expensive super/hypercars available...still...but their time will come eventually as well. 

    Sad indeed.

    This is the best example of an EV product which is basically a fascinating and do-it-all car and everyone should want to get one but in reality, they get boring very very fast. Like a quartz watch which looks great and works perfectly but people are still attracted more (and for a longer period of time) with certain automatic watches, even if they can tell the time only Smiley or can fail mechanically.

    I won't forget my first ride in the Taycan Turbo S. The first hour, I enjoyed this car tremendously. Then, it got boring fast. Very fast. I would probably own one as a daily driver, maybe, if I had many many other cars but otherwise, NO THANKS. Nothing to do with the Taycan, I would not get ANY EV right now. Period. I am not an anti-EV fanatic but they are just boring. Can't help it.
