    Re: 2023 Formula One

What a lovely scramble egg race!!

Those that started in the front didn't finished in the front. That's what fans wanted!

Norris got shuffled to 7th, Russell had a late DNF, at least Albon hanged on for a points finish.

Talking about Albon, mighty impressive for sticking to the slicks for so long, through the rain and stuff. Wow!!

Alonso showed he still got quite a few tricks up his sleeve, lovely podium for him, and making the boss's son look even more bad, as if that is even possible.

Sainz single-handedly carried the Ferrari to 5th, mighty defence against the fast Hamilton at the end.

Lawson has an impressive showing for his first GP, qualified last but stayed out of trouble and ended up finishing ahead of 3 current F1 drivers that's still running. Perez has to be looking behind him right now fearing of losing his seat.

Piastri is another impressive driver today, the moves he pulled off, wow!

Hamilton had a GREAT recovery drive, that's skill and experience, and that's why he is a 7 time champ. Too bad the Mercedes pit wall wasn't on the ball all day.

Gasly, he is shining after leaving the toxic Red Bull/Alpha Tauri environment, just like Albon, boy what a great drive today for him and got rewarded for a podium.

Leclerc, hmm, hmm. Well Ferrari did failed him, again, but he isn't without blame, but really, he is just a passenger on the rollercoaster, he has no idea what comes next but then again he unbuckled himself off the carriage a few times too.

Yuki was quite impressive today, but the team failed him with tire call, oh well, he missed out on 10th.

That's about all the drivers worth mentioning for the race.

I just realized the Heineken 0% beer is the omen to a driver leaving F1. First it was Rosberg, then it was Ricciardo (well he came back but now out again), and now the Heineken star is Perez, let's see how long he last in that seat.

Horner is spewing his usual rubbish when asked about the pitstop of Max vs Perez. As if someone will actually believe him, the most dishonest team principal there is after say Briatore. Of course he did it on purpose to have Max undercut Perez. "Astonished about Max's out lap?" Oh please, Max is your boy for the longest time, you know exactly what time Max can do with fresh tires.

As for Max's race? He qualified first, finished 1st, that's it. At least the local broadcast director gave him some screen time when he is leading the race at the end, amount to more than he got total all season. But then again Perez got more coverage than Max all day still. Down side of fucking off into the distance at the start all year. No point in showing a car running alone when there are battles everywhere on track.

Monza next, what's the over/under on how Ferrari is going to fuck up their home race? It's not even a question of if, it's how.

    Re: 2023 Formula One

Honestly, this year is one of the greatest and most competitive season there is. (Please ignore Verstappen and his all conquering Red Bull that bolted right off the start and never to be seen again)

Today, it's 7 different teams from 2nd to 8th. And I think it's not the only time this year this happened. And each week, perhaps a hand full of drivers have a chance at podium, it's not a 'set' grid.

I don't remember the last time we have a F1 season where every week there are so many battles on track. The passing, the defending, all the drivers are showcasing their skills.

Poor Perez is getting such a raw deal at Red Bull, it's like, he's not even there. He was never given a half decent chance. Bottas at least was getting a mostly neutral car that he can drive and be competitive against Hamilton and he occasionally shined. Perez has the all conquering Red Bull but in the wrong fitment for him, his performance was literally all car and not him. But at least that combination means he can't disappeared into the distance running 2nd to Verstappen and had to fight with the peasants behind, and in the process, making Verstappen look really good.

Agree, it looks fantastic. OTOH the other car shown at the unveiling, the 33 Stradale homage, is not as great. Sure it's a nice reskin of an MC20, but it is nowhere near as beautiful as the original.

You mean like 50 million for 7 drivers' title? That's a bargain.

How much is Red Bull paying Max again? And he only got 2?

    Re: 2023 Formula One

Oops, the 55mil a year guy who is in his prime AND in the fastest car can't beat the 5mil a year one in Ferrari for pole.

At least he beat the 24mil guy to 2nd.

It would seems Hamilton, who is approaching 40, and in his twilight years, is still the benchmark since people just love talking about him still.

Does it matter if he wins some more? Not really, he won the most already and hold most of the important records, it just means adding 1 or 2 to the giant pile.

Focus of F1 should be in the kids in their prime, Leclerc, Sainz, Norris, Piastri, Russell, Albon, Gasly, Ocon, and of course Verstappen. Alonso and Hamilton the old guard are just the supporting cast.

Great drive by Lawson, took it to Q2 with the lowly Alpha Tauri.

    Re: 2023 Formula One

Spoken like a true trust funder, let’s pay Lewee for the past

my fav today is Albon v impressive

    Re: 2023 Formula One

A person is worth whatever another entity is willing to pay.

If Mercedes didn't think Hamilton is worth it, they wouldn't have extended him. and he is well worth whatever Mercedes is paying him, he is a proven entity, can drag a car from nowhere to somewhere. When he won his first title, the Ferraris were faster than his McLaren. Even if we discount other teams and just look within his own team, he also has a much much higher quality of teammates that he beat, Alonso, Rosberg, Button, that's 3 F1 champions right there. He is the most experienced driver on the grid after Alonso, his car developmental inputs are second to none.

If Aston didn't think Alonso is worth it, they wouldn't have hire Alonso.

If Mclaren didn't think Norris is worth it, he wouldn't be there anymore.

Ferrari also think Leclerc and Sainz are worth the investment too. And Sainz slayed the dragon today to qualify on pole.

Red Bull didn't think Albon was good enough, but Williams did, and Albon has been performing, so well worth signing.

Same with every driver on the grid, well except junior. Or Yuki, who is there because of Honda. Zhou also because of the Chinese money.

Every professional athlete are paid accounting to what they have accomplished. There is no exception.

Red Bull thinks Verstappen is worth 55mil a year after he won his first, hence that long contract. He won another after and will win one more this year are just bonus for Red Bull. had they tried to sign him this year after he won 3 in a row, Verstappen might have asked for 80mil or 100mil a year. Basically Verstappen got short changed,

But he got lucky with the Red Bull being the fastest last couple years. Imagine in an alternate universe where the Red Bull has the pace of a Alfa Romeo last couple years, and if his contract came up this year, he wouldn't have been paid so much cause, well, he was nowhere to be found and had only won 1 WDC.

Only time will tell if Verstappen is like Vettel or Hamilton. Right now he is along the line of Vettel, dominating when the car is the fastest one. Not a bad follow though, as Vettel won 4 in a row with the hyper fast Red Bull.

    Re: 2023 Formula One

So nice to see Verstappen matured enough to realize when he has the faster car, he doesn't need to go archy bargie. Exact same scenario with Sainz as he was with Hamilton 2 years ago, and he realized to earn points he needed to finish and backed off and can always pass Sainz later, which he did.

    Bravo to him.

Wow, great racing action today on track. The Ferrari boys are putting up a show at the end.

Man, Sainz, most deserving to be Driver of the Day. GREAT defence, first against Verstappen and then Perez and then his teammate, very happy to see Ferrari up there at their home track, and nothing gone wrong for once and they didn't embarrass themselves.

Albon again showed his skills on track, what a mistake Red Bull did letting him go. Great defence against the McLarens.

    Re: 2023 Formula One

Sorry to say Leclerc is an absolute prick if you ask me, all the while he was behind Perez he didn’t apply pressure but as soon as Perez passed Sainz, he kept putting pressure on Sainz. He did the stupa t twice in the race… absolute prat !!!!

He could have put a lot of pressure on Perez in order not to allow Perez to pass Sainz but he didn’t!!!!

    Re: 2023 Formula One

Easy to say that behind the TV. Leclerc probably realized it was pointless to chew up the tires to battle someone that he isn't going to win with Perez.

But honestly the Ferraris are no match for the Red Bull in race pace, they chew up the tires too much. Not a chance they can finish ahead of the quicker Red Bulls. Those are on another level under race conditions.

Sainz was all skills today, literally driving his wheels off trying to stay ahead of Verstappen and that only lasted 10 laps and change, while Sainz was going all out, he and Verstappen pulled away from Leclerc to be out of DRS range.

Perez getting ahead is also another eventuality. And because of the way Sainz was running so hard pretty much all race long, Leclerc is in a better place tire wise at the end and that's why those 2 are racing that close. Sainz defended very very well to keep 3rd. Which is basically 1st place this season and Ferrari in all intends and purposes finished 1-2. Mission accomplished for Vasseur in front of the home crowd.

agreed, and Albon will be valuable to a big team quite soon.

Max's pass on Carlito required hard honest racing from both to avoid a crash, very nicely done, and many other passes were clean except for the guttersnipe [much more accurate than set proclaimed gentleman][ Lewee who should have gotten a stop and go penalty, not just 5 seconds.

That's what you wish and think, but not what the rule book says.

But what a gentleman he is, he went to Piastri right away after to apologize, real man owe up to their mistakes and he know he made one by not leaving enough room there.

They analyzed it on the Post Race show also, Hamilton was drifting diagonally to the outside after the pass, he didn't turn right to put the squeeze on but they sort of measure the tire overlap and the track left on the right side of Piastri's car at the moment of impact and concluded it was a fair penalty also.

Also on deck was the non-pass from Verstappen at the first chicane a la 2 years ago. They praised Verstappen for smarting up now and know the value of backing off and try again. The inside car, Sainz and Hamilton respectively has the lead and the racing line and the right to the left hander and Verstappen was basically in no mans land by being there, there was never going to be space for him and he realized that this year and backed off. 2 years ago the Max fans vigorously argued with me about the collision but hey, even Max proved me right today.

Another thing on deck on about the Red Bull winning streak. Red Bull spent a few years chasing Mercedes, they perfected the pit stops, strategies, race management and reliability but they were lacking the car/engine combo. They have had the rocket engine since 2021 and finally the car in 2022 and now 2023. Still needing a quality 2nd driver to pick up the scraps when things didn't go well a la Bottas but they don't really need that as Max has been good to take advantage of his rocket of a car. Stars are aligned for Max.
