    Best home printer

Guys, sorry for this ridiculous topic for RT Smiley

I must have been through four or five printers at home in the last 10 years and they all break really quickly I've sent some back for replacement etc but that is just a total PIA which I don't need, my current home printer an HP Envy hasn't worked properly for 6 months and it's only a year or so old it's always hit or miss whether it will print and I just can't be bothered trying to get the damn thing working with all the quirky error messages and cartridges not recognised etc etc.....

My work printers are all excellent but do I really  need to buy an expensive printer to print maybe 30 pages per month ?

Your recommendations are very welcome even if it is that I need to shell out for a good one because at the moment my Mrs ends up emailing me "stuff" ,usually retailer return labels and the like, to print out at work so I'm a bloody secretary as well as all my other jobs Smiley

    Re: Best home printer

    Keen to see responses.

I have used a HP8630 (inkjet - not laser) all-in-one for 10 years at home and it has been bullet proof.

The model was replaced by the 8740 which in turn was replaced by the 9015e

    hp-officejet-pro-9015e-all-in-one-printer

I will need to retire the 8630 at some stage so I am also open to suggestions.

    Re: Best home printer

Interesting, I use a simple HP Deskjet printer/scanner with the Instant Ink plan HP has where you pay a monthly fee and they send you the ink cartridges in the mail automatically when they defect you are low on ink so I don't worry about anything and have had zero issues with the printer and has several years now maybe?

    Re: Best home printer

I’ve been using a brother all in one for several years. It’s been reliable at roughly 1000 pages a year.
my observation is it is worth paying a little more maybe $300-400 vs the least expensive printers. Both more reliable but also much more efficient on ink use.

I’m on the same program and it works fine. Smiley

We have been using this xerox printer for the last 10 years. It is a simple and very reliable B&W laser printer (plus copy/scan and Fax). It was also relatively inexpensive at the time of purchase. Print quality is excellent. This is the xerox paper we use.

    Re: Best home printer

I have been using a Brother now for at least 6 or 7 years after having changed regularly my printers due to the same experiences as TB993.

It works well except for bluetooth printing, that I never managed to get working.

Fed up now with inkjet,  I plan to change it soon for laser, but have been postponing as worried I would get again into the same endless frustrations I had with most of my previous printers.

    Re: Best home printer

I had a HP colour laser multifunction unit with an extra paper cassette for over 10 years. Wasn't a cheap one as it has ethernet so like a full on office printer but averaged it out it's like $100 a year, cheap enough. Paid a hell lot more for toners over the year however

Last year I replaced it with another HP unit, not because the old one broke but because the new one has AirPrint. I can print straight from my phone without going to a computer first.

I am old fashion that lots of time I prefer printing stuff up to read instead of reading on the computer, and with the dual cassette I can keep the used paper on the other tray.

7E042D38-490C-4E92-B498-3591F7A173C1.jpegHa, just bought an Epson ET-3850. Good topic. It seems to do everything. Scans, faxes, prints double sided. Nice front loading and exiting paper path. Simple wifi connection that lets you print from any printer anywhere in the world. Especially impressive printing directly from your phone. Pictures, pdfs etc direct from your phone.
Best part is the ink comes in bottles. No cartridges. You can see the tank levels on the front of the printer and of course in the mobile app. $340 at Sams. The three giant black ink bottles it comes with looks like a lifetime supply.

    Re: Best home printer

Epson ET 5850 series is another good choice

    Re: Best home printer

    Fuji Xerox DocuPrint CM315

I know it's for a small office size but built better than the home-use ones and works flawlessly every time.

    Re: Best home printer

Thanks for the replies and of course it made me realise just how many options there are out there. Cookieguy may have a point about spending 300-400 but it just seems overkill for a home jobbie.

So I put my current personal office laser mono (has been super reliable) into the search at our local online printer specialist and it is discontinued but recommended a Xerox B310 alternative which is a basic mono laser, it is worryingly cheap £200 inc tax but it has a lot of good reviews to fingers crossed.

Using a couple of HP Laserjet Pro MPF printers (b/w and one color) and I am very happy, the cartridges are expensive though. Airprint also works, which is a plus for me with the iPhone.

Not a fan of ink printers, so I always go for laser but it really isn't necessary, just a personal preference.

based on you're comments I'm looking at the Xerox 235 -- how hard was the set up?  that's what I hate about HP

    Re: Best home printer

Setup of our (non fancy) Xerox printer was extremely simple and operation has been flawless ever since. I just add premium paper and stock toner cartridges :) I would never go back to ink. I also think that many printing problems may stem from using poor paper quality.

    Re: Best home printer

I had used Xerox Phasers for ages until they withdrew Solid Ink Printers. I then tried their Versalink but it was very unreliable.

I now have an HP Color Laser 150nw which is inexpensive and perfect for home use...
