I'd love to do this too (it's a real shame I didn't buy this originally) but for $4300 in parts alone, I can't justify it.

Eslai - if its really for that much money then it isn't worth it. You can go with an Alpine set-up. The navigation is far better - with 3d city views (you can actually see the buildings on the map) along with intergrated Zagat ratings for restaurants...not to mention all rest areas and ATMs. Depending how far up you want to go on the Alpine scale, 4300 could get you a lot including a far better sound system than the Bose premium...if you are going Alpine F1, then that's a completely different story....my current dilemma, and my 987 S doesn't get delivered until 8/31 !

Ah, true, but then you don't get that OEM look. I suppose for four grand you could have something fabricated to make the Alpine look like it fits in better though, and you'd be getting a better stereo (why does the tuner on the stock system move sooooo slowly up the dial when you're doing manual tuning? It's so annoying!). I suppose it's something to consider.

They can do absolutely anything and make it look OEM. They also bill $125 an hour for labor but I suppose that's the price for seamless integration of third party hardware. In all, they were charging me roughly 16,000 for Alpine F1 DVD Audio Receiver, 8 channel amplifier, and an integrated screen. The speakers (Focal or Dynaudio) drive the price up even more, and add another 3 or 4K if you wanted that Alpine DVD Nav..check out their site, you'll be very impressed. When I visited them, I saw them working on P Diddy's H2, and his 4 Lincoln Navigators - they make the guys on Pimp My Ride seem amateur in comparison...

Let me know if you are going to set up an appt. with them - I know the attorney that represents them, so I get good deals. Also, check out their cloaking packages - built in Valentine One radar into the rear view mirror (with indicators), and K40 Laser Jammers in the front and rear...

The Pioneer AVIC-X1 is still extremely expensive, and it'll be out of date in no time too! Anything consumer-electronics wise will be.
I'd still prefer to go the Tom-Tom route. It's portable (so you can use it for navigating round strange towns on foot), much much cheaper, and they do regular software updates. Plus if you have a compatible mobile phone, you can use that instead of a PDA.

Guess colour of unit puts me off straightaway as it will look out of place, but functions looks great. Have found them for sale by googling for just over a grand sterling Pounds1175. If it really is a simple swap then yes as I could use in my planned French/Spain trip in September. I need to find out more info & will it work with my ordered Nokia 616 Handsfree.
