New GT3RS Information from one of our Users

One of our Users posted new GT3RS information in the german Porsche forum. Only a few short points:
    1. power slightly over the original GT3 power...something around 390 HP
    2. PCCB
    3. weight reduction at least 120 kg
    4. street tires (optional: Pirelli PZero Corsa)
    5. rear spoiler gets an additional lip, front spoiler gets two little additional air inlets
    6. some carbon parts involved in production
    7. no A/C, no radio and no Bi-Xenon lamps
    8. body the same as on the GT3 (no "wide-body")

Official information should be out soon.

A little comment from my side: I heard that the power stays the same but maybe this info is newer and more precise now.

Why no Xenon lights? These aren't heavier are they?

My understanding is that the "problem" isn't only the Bi-Xenon headlamp itself but the mandatory headlight washing system including the water tank.

Re: Why no Xenon lights? These aren't heavier are they?

Why should it have Xenon lights? It's a pure racecar.

Re: Why no Xenon lights? These aren't heavier are they?

RSR - Let's be serious - any car that weighs close to 3,000 lbs in full road trim is not a pure racecar. A wonderful road car, yes, but not a racecar...

RSR - I noticed the laughing icon too late - I get it...

Grant, you are right. Real racecars look like this ;)

    Or like this.

Re: Why no Xenon lights? These aren't heavier are they?

Dealer is certain that my RS will arrive before the end of the year, so I guess that official infos and pics should be out pretty soon.
Christian, did the user on the german board say anything about the only color variant being white?
Since every source is pointing in this direction, do you think it would be possible, maybe through Exclusive dep., to have it painted in another color, maybe as a special order (paying for the extra).I'm a bit worried since I'm not sure I'd like the car in white, more so if it remains very similar to a standard GT3 (no widebody, or racing carbon wing).
The weight reduction of 120 kgs seems a bit optimistic to me, how could they achieve that?
Last thing: I really hoped they wouldn't include the PCCBs as standard, since everybody tends to agree that they are not yet ideal for track use...
    Ciao a tutti...

Re: New GT3RS Information from one of our Users

Since they apparently aren't going to import the car to the US because of DOT regulations, I'm sure there will be a great business opportunity for someone to make the RS parts available to those in the US that want to convert their cars.

One thing that RC didn't mention that I had read in some UK Porsche mags was that the RS would use a Lexan rear window to save weight. I think this is one of the reasons it wouldn't be legal in the US.

Re: Why no Xenon lights? These aren't heavier are they?

Luigi, the GT3 RS street version is still a pretty obscure thing.
Every information I got is from people who know something but who are not involved in GT3 RS street version development or marketing.
This means: it is even possible that there won't be a GT3 RS street version. However, all rumors indicate such a thing, so it is very likely that the GT3 RS street version might not be a fantasy only.

To be honest: I got much more information about the upcoming 996 Turbo Cab than about the GT3 RS street version. I'm a little bit surprised to see that kind of secrecy level but I'm really having difficulties to find out more about a 996 GT3 RS street version. Sorry.

    Interesting post from another board

From looking at this non-Photoshop picture, it appears the GT3 RS will have a carbon fiber rear wing element similar to the Cup car and carbon fiber mirrors. I can't see any difference in the front spoiler or air dam but a frontal shoot might reveal something.

Re: Interesting post from another board

This must be the GT3 RS.

Someone from Porsche (who has driven the car) describes the GT3 RS just like the car on this photo.

The additional Lip... he didn`t say additional to the normal GT3 rear spoiler. He also told me about the carbon fiber mirrors.

    Nice picture.

Thanks, I don't know why it didn't show in line, however. I used the instant UBB code but it doesn't seem to have worked.

    More than a fantasy

    Christian,

Your information is always very good - it helped me secure the order for my current GT3 more than four years ago. This time your source may be a little slower than usual. My dealer gave me a one page RS information summary provided to them by PCA on 23 May 2003, and accepted my order on 26 May 2003. They advise production is scheduled for October 2003, with 10 units allocated to Australia.

    Cheers

    Tim
