    Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

I orderd the PSE about May 1st and it is alreday here. Not bad, ha? I have the 997S cab and the sound is already Awesome. Do they have to weld and cut to install the PSE? Also, what will the change of sound be compared to STD exhust? I am scheduled for June 15th install.

Should I do it or just stay with the standard Exhaust. HELP PLEASE.

Oh, I will only pay $2400 and it usually cost $3100 but the dealer agreed to thiis since they could not add the item to my car at the time of t he order. THANKS

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

I ordered mine 4 days ago and i am told that it would be two weeks to arrive and 3.5 hours to install for about the same amount $2495.00

dont't pass on this one dude go for it!!!

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

do a forum search, some have posted audio on the PSE... it sounds more grumbly at lower RPM's, at higher RPM's the standard exhaust sounds amazing anyway... so i guess its up to you!

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

I called up my dealer the other day and enquired about PSE and when it would be possible to get it and they told me, "We don't really know, but we will get back to you as soon as we hear anything about it." lol

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

there is no welding, it is a swap for the mufflers that are present, and some wiring work

Yeah, same thing with my dealer here in Long Beach, CA. It's amazing how simple it is to update the dealers with the latest information and it doesn't happen.

I would recommend against installing it. I'll take it instead.

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

I like the PSE more and more. See my videos for a rough impression of the sound. I will reach the break-in period end this week and will try to make another video going until 7.000 rpm. It's so much fun. I'm going to 6.000 rpm until now and it seems to have another sound kick starting at 6.000 rpm. I'm so curious as well.

Oh, stop teasing now... My car should arrive within 2 weeks now and reading stuff like this, argh

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

Didn't want to tease you. Maybe only a little bit.

When I was waiting for my Cab I thought anticipation is better than the real thing.

It's wrong. I'm getting more and more fun every day driving. Sorry. I did tease again.

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

I guss I better install it before Alan takes it. Hey Alan you can have it for $5K. I love the look of the PSE though and hope the sound is as good as you guys describe it. There was a post in another forum that says the sound is only marginaly better.

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

Sometimes when you realize that you have spent $3-4K to only make the sound better, true objectivity and the subjective ego will clash...
Not a flame on those you have and love their PSE, just a life experience observation.

Even the non-PSE exhaust sounds great between 5000-7000. I haven't really pushed my 997 hard alot but when I have, wow, there is a nice, loud sound coming out that's amazing. I really like the standard exhaust at that rpm range. That's why I'm hoping that PSE doesn't mess up the PSE-off sound.

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

If I got PSE, I'd want it to be on 24/7 anyway, so no on off switch is neccessary

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

I'm going to work every morning before 7am. With PSE on you wake up all your neighbours. My wife asked me to put it off around our neighbourhood. It's a great feature to have the possibility to put it off. But 99,999% of the time I put it on.

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

well my neighbours hate my noble anyway, it's too loud for their liking not to mention that they hate my friend's viper too. what's the point of me trying to make peace with them then 8)

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

I wish I could try a cab with PSE to decide if PSE is the right way to go. Why would Porsche charge their customers $2500 extra for PSE if it was not better than STD exhust?

    Seven,
I remember you wrote that you car is now ON all the time when sport chrono is ON (no more cut off between 40 and 80 kmh) and OFF when sport chrono is OFF.
However, your mechanics didn't know what mod they did to achieve this!
Do they remember now or it just happened like that after a check?
    Thanks.

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

yes Fanch is right! What happenned after all???

and did PSE got any louder as km pass by?

Right! It's working. But they told me it's not the perfect solution because the sound is some kind of 'load-dependent'.

The one mechanic didn't know. The other knew. He said they made a factory software upgrade.

They said they will contact me when the final solution is ready. Which means an additional PSE on/off button. I didn't hear anything the last month. I will ask tomorrow.

I don't suppose it's getting louder. But now I reached 3.000 km and I started to rev up the engine to 7.000 rpm. Above 6.000 rpm the PSE is starting to screech like sawing (can you say that??). I mean a little bit like a formula-1 car. Only a little bit.

    Thanks for that Seven.
I think "load dependent" confirms that it is DME dependent.
About the additional button, I am very sceptical, how are they gonna do this???
Drill another hole for a button next the sport one? That would mean taking off the PSM facia!
On the 996, it was easy, all the whole were there in the first place covered by fake buttons if not needed.
On the 997, are they preparation for any additional button? It looks not to me...

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

I thought about this the other day. If you look at the PCM console, its divided into different parts, and the bottom part were the buttons of sport chrono, PASM, PSM, rear wing, etc. are located is an independant strip (at least it sure looks like it from the outside). That strip could probably be removed and just be substituted with a another one that has the extra button, like the one that comes with non-chrono cars with PSM. This is probably what they do in cars without sport chrono that get a PSE retrofit, they just change that strip with another one with the extra button for the PSE instead of changing the hole PCM console.

The problem is that non-chrono cars don't get the sport button so you loose a button for the sport chrono but if you don't have PASM (-20mm cars) you can use a strip made for the PASM cars and use the PASM hole for the sport chrono. I.e. -20mm cars would need 4 buttons for the extra PSE button there (rear wing, sport chrono, PSM and PSE) so they can use a strip for the PASM cars that have: rear wing, PASM, and sport chrono. ANd use the PASM button for the PSE.

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

    Makes sense.
    Hope you're right.
I remember, when I had my PSE installed in my 996, they didn't have any button with the exhaust drawing on it, so I ended up with two PSM buttons on my car!

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

Carlso is right i checked and this small fascia is removable plus i believe they intentionally left space for more buttons for future options, electronics.

So the solution might be underlined there, and i see it possible in the near future that Porsche will provide the PSE with autonomus button for sport/non-sport pachage cars.

Re: Porsche Sport Exhausts is here

Thats the thing I dislike most about the PSE.
Sometimes I want to be hearing the sport exhaust but I don't want the sport chrono on becuase it decreases PSM threshold and the later it acts the less it can do. For example in slippery surfaces (like a cold damp mornimg or wet road), or in high speed highway driving. But right now when you don't want to decrease the PSM/ABS, you can't have the PSE ON and still have the ON/OFF funtion.
