My Boxster was one of the early 987's in the UK (March 05) and I am happy to report that so far (3,000 miles) I have had not the slightest fault or grounds for complaint.
Tempting fate I know, and I am holding a very large piece of wood as I write this. 
And in the respect of the Cayman, no I wouldn't buy one as I believe it offers poor value for money compared with the Boxster.

Well I had Pounds1000 deposit on this from December 2004 but Im quite disapointed. I think it looks like a japanese coupe (hyundia or celica). I might get a 996 second hand instead. I was expecting something much greater for the price/name change.

Didn't see an appropriate choice, but I will hopefully be buying the standard (non-S) Cayman if and when it comes out. Having owned a 986 for 5 years, I've been there and done that as far as roadster and discovered along the way that I prefer coupes.

well i was really into the SC430 2006 ,, But After i saw this Baby ,, i went nuts ,, i love it ,, although im having concearns about the service, maintinance ,, you know ? couz Lexus are known for thier great services ,, and cheap prices. so basically this is the only thing im concearned about ..

Lexus & Porsche is not apple to apple my good man they are totally different in so many ways... One example to look at is on the maintenance, Porsche's require less service intervals because of it's superior engineering which translates to a Lexus that may need more service intervals, in the long run it could possibly cost the same or even less for the Porsche. Just a thought.

Tooner ,, Thanxx for the info ,, and i do realize what you say ,, but u know what ? im also concearned about how they treat you ,, and i mean it ,, its really important. i may sound cheesy but Lexus always treat you like you own a Ferrari ,, know what i mean ? couz im hearing some rumors here and there on how Porsche is known for thier carelesness and over the limit prices

There are good and bad dealers for *every* brand out there.
My Porsche dealer has always been fantastic and treated me great. But as tooner said, Porsche and Lexus are different animals and their dealers will most likely be different also.
Myself I would rather have a dealer that will fix my car quickly and correctly the first time and forgo all the fru-fru crap, but if they provide both.....great.
Yes, Porsches are expensive to maintain compared to most other brands.....no way around it. A major service will probably be in the $500 - $800 range with minor ones being half that. Throw in some new brakes here or there and an alignment and it all adds up really quickly......cost of doing business with Porsche, but for the most part the rewards are well worth it.
Which one will be more reliable?......most likely Lexus, but then again they don't have anything I would want to drive anyway, so I gladly put up with the few qwerks a Porsche may have.

Before getting into reliability and all that, perhaps you should figure out if the Cayman is even for you? As the others have indicated, the SC430 and they Cayman are completely different cars and I'm not sure anyone would seriously cross-shop the two. Perhaps you should be looking at the MB SLK as an alternative to the Lexus instead.

I would prefer a Cayman with less power than a 911 but a smidge more power than a Boxster.
I dont want a convertible Cayman or a Cayman with a with detachable hard top. I am ready to pay thousands of dollars more for a Cayman with a hardtop that cant come off.
Also, I don't need anymore insturments than a Boxster has or a limited slip differential.
Porsche's CEO says that its the best looking Porsche ever and promises to never race it, so thats good enough for me!
