997 - Front Trunk Lid alignment issue

    Hi All,

Anyone had an issue with the front bonnet lid not being correctly aligned - I recall there may have been a case or two.

Why would this happen so early - not really causing me a problem but from the two pictures below - you will note in pic 1 (at the dealer on collection), the alignment is fine. On Pic 2, its slightly out of alignment on the bottom right.

    Regards

Re: 997 - Front Trunk Lid alignment issue

have u by any chance used too much pressure on the lid when closing???
blame ur wife/ kids for that....

cos its aluminium. u can potentially deform it if u lean too heavily on it.
the dealer told me to close lid by applying "firm" pressure on the EDGE of the lid , below the Porsche crest....

Re: 997 - Front Trunk Lid alignment issue

I suspect that it is the plastic front bumper that is the problem.

Re: 997 - Front Trunk Lid alignment issue

The hood should only be closed by gently pressing on the badge. Put pressure on it until it clicks.

Also, shouldn;t the gap be the same all the way around? The sides shouod match the front?

Try adjusting the rubber bumper stops that should support the hood. That's the only thing you can do. Moving the hood or the bumber itself, even slightly, will result in major gap inconsistencies.

My dealer said exactly what Derder's dealer said, they also told me specifically "not" to press on the badge but more below, right on the edge.

Re: 997 - Front Trunk Lid alignment issue

My 987S has exactly the same "problem". I haven't yet talked with the service manager about it but it does seem to be front bumper that is somehow creating this problem.

I have to take a few pictures of it.... More than 3 weeks of ownership and haven't yet taken a single picture :/

Re: 997 - Front Trunk Lid alignment issue

I was told for closing drop the lid from around 6-7inches , pushind down on a lid waiting for the click can cause slight dentation ..

I have seen this happen to bonnets before but the alignement ? well has someone pushed hard on the right ( as we look ? )..

Have a word with the dealer..

    throt.

Re: 997 - Front Trunk Lid alignment issue

Some another comment I forgot to include before... This front trunk lid alignment issue was already present when I picked up the car. I did not discuss this at the time because I was already way to late for me and it's something that they can't accuse me of doing since the sales person saw it when I mentioned it.

Re: 997 - Front Trunk Lid alignment issue

Thanks all for your feedback - I have been taking care in applying light pressure just below the bagde when closing. Considering the bonnet is such a larg part of the car, the locking latch seems quite weak.

Will ask dealer to look at it next time I'm in.

Re: 997 - Front Trunk Lid alignment issue

My bonnet was out of alignment when i picked up the car, i took it back and they sorted it!the bonnet should always sit slightly below the level of the bumper this is so that the wind pressure does not get under the bonnet at high speed! hope you get it sorted mate..

Re: 997 - Front Trunk Lid alignment issue

Cheers Grant - sorry for not getting around to organise the UK meet - been a tad busy changing jobs and stuff.

    Will do soon

This one I can answer categorically.....about 6 weeks ago I had 3 engineers from the factory (actually two from the factory and one from their electronics supplier,) looking at my car. When I closed the lid by pushing down on the badge one of them told me not to close it that way. He said that you can crack the lid ....There are a couple of holes beneath the badge where the pins locate...Under certain conditions (by repeatedly pressing on the badge) the holes generate cracks.....He said he'd seen cars where the cracks caused a split from one hole to the other (I believe the holes are a diaganol from one another).....You should gently press belowthe badge (to the left, center, or right )...

I'm sorry guys; I screwed up here. You're probably right. The "Badge Press" is how I close my 03 986S. Makes sense on the Boxster since the hook is directly underneath it. OOPS!

Re: 997 - Front Trunk Lid alignment issue

now at least i know my dealer is properly trained

I'm sure that can be adjusted easily...just ask your service

Person.... the height can be adjusted by the little rubber bumper things under the hood...
